LANCASTER – A man in his 30s was shot and killed after an argument in Lancaster Saturday night, authorities said.

The incident happened around 10:34 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, in the 45400 block of Corkwood Avenue, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“Detectives have learned that Lancaster Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call of a ‘gunshot victim.’ When deputies arrived they located the victim, a 30-year-old male… suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body,” Navarro-Suarez stated.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told investigators that the victim and two men were involved in a verbal argument, and during the argument, one of the men shot the victim with a handgun, according to Navarro-Suarez.

Both suspects fled the location in an unknown direction; the murder weapon has not been recovered, Navarro-Suarez stated.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information at this time.

The victim’s name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.

UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Johnnie Jones of Los Angeles, according to Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

  11. My heart goes out to the family, truly loosing a loved one is one of the worst things to experience in life. Especially when physically taken by someone else.

    A lot of people in antelope valley lack core values and common sense. Get off your ass, stay out the streets, go get a job and stop living off of welfare while all the working class pays your taxes and most of all learn some [removed]respect.

  13. I did not know June but met him over social media through a family member. My family had recently moved to California and June really showed them love and became a family member by choice. I will miss his witty comments and telling me that my family member was in good hands. I don’t know what happened but I will say this…….NO ONE HAS THE AUTHORITY TO TAKE A LIFE. NO ONE.
