PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale, in partnership with the Art Branch Foundation, will hold an open house this Saturday to introduce new programs at Gabriel’s House, Palmdale’s Neighborhood House #3.
The open house, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Gabriel’s House, located at 38533 4th St. East in Palmdale.
“We’re looking forward to introducing the community to some of the new classes and offerings we have going on at Gabriel’s House,” stated Palmdale Housing Coordinator Terri-Lei Wheeler. “We’ve had guitar, dance and drum classes, and for 2015 we’ll be introducing pencil drawing, photography and filmmaking workshops to engage our youth in the creative arts.”
“This will be a great opportunity for people to check out what’s happening and to connect with the amazing things going on at Gabriel’s House,” Wheeler added.
The classes are free of charge and may include instruments and materials for free.
At Saturday’s open house, instructors and current students will be on hand to answer questions and register new students.
Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford will attend the event, as well as the Gryffingear FRC Robotics Team 5012 from The Palmdale Aerospace Academy who will provide robotics demonstrations.

About Gabriel’s House
The Palmdale City Council voted unanimously to approve a new Neighborhood House in Focus Neighborhood 3 and name it “Gabriel’s House,” in memory of 8-year-old Gabriel Fernandez who was tragically killed after child abuse. Working with local partners from The Art Branch, “Gabriel’s House” serves as a free music and performing arts center to provide children in the area with the opportunity to develop their creative talents.
The Warnack Foundation donated $20,000 to Gabriel’s house for musical instruments, sheet music, equipment and miscellaneous supplies.

How about in keeping with the house’s name they offer parenting classes, pro bono legal or counseling services, or parent child activities, or on-site deputies be/or Social Workers. These services might actually address the problem of child abuse. Educate neighbors how to spot and report child abuse. The community failed Gabriel, it will take community action to prevent another Gabriel. It will never happen though because government agencies don’t work well together
