PALMDALE – A 61-year-old driver died at the scene Friday after he lost control of his vehicle following a mechanical failure, authorities said.
The fatal collision occurred around 11:05 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, on Avenue N near 35th Street West in Palmdale, according to Lt. Slade Carrizosa of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
“An older model [vehicle] was westbound on Avenue N and had some type of mechanical failure and lost the driver’s side rear tire,” Carrizosa said, citing a preliminary investigation.
“[The driver] lost control of his vehicle, causing his vehicle to roll over… and he was ejected from the [vehicle],” Carrizosa said.
The vehicle’s rear tire hit a Honda Odyssey van that was traveling eastbound on Avenue N, according to Carrizosa.
The van’s driver was not injured, Carrizosa said. The deceased driver’s name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
Traffic in both directions on Avenue N, from 30th to 40th Street West, was blocked off for more than four hours to allow for the investigation.
The fatal collision is still under investigation.
