KANSAS CITY, MO. – The city of Palmdale’s Public Works Department was awarded a prestigious American Public Works Association (APWA) Re-Accreditation. The APWA Accreditation and Re-Accreditation program recognizes public works agencies that go beyond the requirements of the management practices established nationally in the public works industry, as contained in the APWA Public Works Management Practices Manual. The City of Palmdale agency received its original APWA Accreditation January 7, 2011, and received its Re-Accreditation on Feb. 9, 2015.
Palmdale’s Public Works Re-Accreditati0n indicates the department has met all applicable Accreditation documentation and practices.
“The awarding of the APWA Re-Accreditation shows we have dedicated ourselves to concepts of improvement and in-depth self-assessment of department policies, procedures and practices over time. The heroes of this prestigious APWA award are the public works staff whose mission is to provide public works services and programs that contribute to making Palmdale a great city,” stated Public Works Director Mike Mischel.
The Palmdale Public Works Department is responsible for the development and maintenance of the public infrastructure that contributes to the enhanced quality of life in the community. Responsibilities include the administration of the city’s capital improvement program; benefit assessment districts for landscaping and street lighting; development review and approvals; flood control; traffic and transportation planning; development and maintenance of city buildings and grounds, public parking areas, parks, trails, streets, landscaping, traffic control systems and city equipment and assets.
For the city of Palmdale’s Public Works Re-Accreditation review, a team of public works professionals from Golden, CO, Naperville, IL and Kansas City, MO, completed a thorough evaluation of operations during their January 2015 site visit.
“It’s great to have the Palmdale Department of Public Works reach full compliance with their practices again. I commend their continued and renewed commitment to the detailed review of the agency’s policies and procedures to qualify for their Re-Accreditation,” stated APWA Director of Accreditation Ann Daniels.
The Palmdale Public Works Department became the 65th agency in North America to receive Accreditation.
The list also includes fellow California agencies from Alameda County, Berkeley, Contra Costa County, Encinitas, Fresno, Oakland, Orange County, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo County, Thousand Oaks and Ventura.
