NEWHALL – Two Lancaster residents died Wednesday after their vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a utility truck, authorities said.
The fatal collision happened around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, on Soledad Canyon Road south of Capra Road in the Newhall area, according to a California Highway Patrol report. [View an image of the collision here.]
The driver, identified by coroner’s officials as 27-year-old Ellsworth Jerome Young, was in a 2004 Honda Element headed southbound on Soledad Canyon Road.
“Young was unable to negotiate a right hand curve in the roadway, [he was] traveling at a high rate of speed and crossed over the double yellow lines into oncoming northbound lanes directly into the path of vehicle #2. The vehicles collided head-on completely into the northbound lanes,” the CHP report states.
Young sustained fatal injuries from the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP report.
His female passenger, a 19-year-old Lancaster resident, sustained major injuries and was trapped inside the vehicle, the CHP report states. She was treated on scene, extricated from the vehicle by L. A. County Fire Department personnel and transported via helicopter to the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where she later died of her injuries, according to the CHP report. The passenger was reportedly identified as Ashley Glick. “Neither the driver or passenger were seat belted,” the CHP report states.
The utility truck’s driver, 22-year-old Juan Cabrera of Sylmar, and his four passengers “were all seat belted within vehicle #2 and sustained no injuries,” the CHP report states.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be factors in the collision, according to the CHP report.
The incident remains under investigation.
Editor’s note: The CHP report lists Ellsworth Young as a Lancaster resident, however, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Young’s last address was in Washington.

I have known Jerome aka “vegas” since I was 17 years old. He has ALWAYS beat his girlfriends and was a pimp in Shoreline and Seattle to underage girls (14-17yrs). The world is better without him. Trust.

about the accident on March 26, where two young people died, please quit posting comments about them and what they did, we don’t know the whole story yet, and your comments are hurtful to the families and friends of those two young people who loved them very much & will miss them very much. Two lives were cut short-maybe by their own doing, but this is still very sad. So please be gentle in your comments about people driving too fast and being stupid and being up to no good, we don’t know the whole situation, and even if we did and it was their fault, still there are people left you are very sad. Rest in peace Ashley.

I’m a cousin of the young man who died. I’ve known him all his life, and, I feel comfortable in saying that he did not kill himself. And yes, he is the father of that child and the woman in the car was the mother of the child. Both of them have families that read the post on here, because just like you, we’re trying to figure out what happened. And, I can tell you for a fact that what you read in the paper is NOT always the truth. The family knows about the child and we are doing our best to figure what is best for her. Either she will go and live with Ashley’s parents or God willing my home. She’s a beautiful little girl who lost both her parents in a car accident. Have some respect because we’re all hurting.

Soledad & Bouquet Cyn. are considered escape routes by the AV criminal element. When I was carjacked in January in Quartz Hill (in an AMAZING coincidence, also by a black male in his 20s), the perpetrator went on a SCV crime spree, then attempted to return to the AV via Soledad. He rolled my minivan, totalling it, getting himself quite caught. I’m glad I got my purse/other personal affects back, though the idiot bled all over them. Lesson: those travelling the aforementioned roads who don’t look like old, white hippie residents of the mountain are very likely dangerous and up to no good.

You know what they say about making ASSumptions???? Many people commute down those roads daily you tool. Stick to something simpler like coloring with crayons because playing crime expert does not suit you at all.

WoW! He didn’t even do three months in jail for the crimes that he committed in Palmdale, I guess that’s Karma for you.
Glo says
He barely did 3 days.
Irena says
Or he was out on bail pending trial.
KayDee says
Or he was released because no charges were ever filed because the child’s mom made the whole thing up in an effort to get back at the daddy. Now it looks like they’re both dead and the child has suffered once again. Smh…
Sunny says
Does anyone know if it was the mother and the father killed in this accident?
Ok says
Or maybe it was true since he decided to flee to another county with the baby. Hmmmm

If you click on bottom- Previous related story – looks like this guys was a lil Koko might have been a suicide if you think about it. Something is not right well the guy driving I think was not all there mentally and only stupid people speed down Soledad or Bouquet Cyn and if you do. You know what might happen to you. see the proof.
Mark says
We need more traffic cops writing more speeding tickets.
Where Is Traffic Enforcement When You Need It? says
You are absolutely right. There is literally no traffic enforcement here in the AV anymore other than the occasional DUI checkpoints. That’s why half the AV drives like it’s the Nascar out here. They know they can drive like insane idiots because they know that there are no deputies watching and they know because they’re not watching, they can get away with it. I literally saw someone skid into the middle of an intersection on a red light right in front of a deputy and he did not initiate a traffic stop.
Bob 2.0 says
That is a response to a problem, but not an end all.
What we need is people to be more responsible period. We need to improve public transportation, than increase the difficulty of getting a drivers license. Also we could be like other countries that require First Aid Certification to get a license.
A lot of people get tickets and points and lose their license but are still out their driving dangerously.
Rego says
Not only that.
