PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale began work Thursday on renovating the recreation fields at Pelona Vista Park, located at 37800 Tierra Subida Avenue in Palmdale.
“This is great news for the residents who use the fields for various outdoor sports and fun,” stated Communications Manager John Mlynar. “These fields get a lot of use and this renovation project is something we really need to meet the demand.”
Groups who have been using the fields for games and practices will use other park sites during the renovation.
The project is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2015.
The scope of the project will include turf removal, re-grading, adding moisture retention soil and amendments, irrigation replacement with water saving technology, and a new grass blend appropriate for the climate and play activity. The project also includes general facility upgrades such as stairwell and walking trail improvements, installation of split rail fencing to improve the cross-country trail and improvement to the irrigation backflow, flow sensor and master valve.
The contractor for the project is Rich Meier’s Landscaping, which was awarded the contract at the April 1 Palmdale City Council meeting.
The renovation will cost about $400,000 and is being funded through the Excess Fund – Cities Grant Program by Los Angeles County Regional Park & Open Space District.

I love this park! I was there yesterday and noticed the improvements in progress. My favorite area is the cross country trail but the bridge is becoming unsafe to cross. I hope this will be included in the project.

I agree Lynnette – I love it too. I think they should throw seeds and add desert flowers on the hiking trail just to add beauty. The bridge does need to be fixed.
