LANCASTER – A 22-year-old man was struck and killed by a freight train in Lancaster early Saturday morning, authorities said.
Richard Kevin Baldwin III of Lancaster was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
He was struck around 1:55 a.m. Saturday, April 18, just north of the Lancaster Metrolink station, near the intersection of Sierra Highway and West Lancaster Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol online incident log.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. David Grall said the victim’s death was believed to be accidental, rather than suicide, but it was still under investigation.
Sierra Highway, from Avenue J to Avenue I, was closed to traffic from the time of the incident until around 6 a.m. Saturday to allow for the investigation.

My sincerest condolences. We went through the same thing a year ago with the loss of our cousin. Similar situation, train and mental state as well. Im sorry that people can be so heartless in their comments. I know that was one of the hardest things to deal with when we were grieving. Many hugs and prayers for your family and friends. I do not know who this is, but I am the sister of Richard Kevin Baldwin and I did not start this thread nor comment on it. Unless you were at the scene or with my brother that night, please do not judge. I am sure Richard is in a better place and I am also sure that although God saw it fit for Richard to come with him, he was not ready to leave or my mom that night, we had so many things in stored for Richard and his life here on earth. My family and I will be fighting to keep Richards life alive and ensure his life here is used to inspire and motivate others. God Bless!
