LANCASTER – Seven students from the Lancaster Classical Conversations homeschool community recently capped months of study by correctly reciting hundreds of facts from a multitude of subjects as part of the Classical Conversations Memory Master program.
The students, ranging in age from six to 11 years old, earned the title Memory Master on Friday, May 1. They had to test with four separate educators and accurately answer all the materials.
Each child spent approximately an hour to an hour and a half recalling facts from Geography, English, Latin, Math, Science and US History, as well as a chronological timeline of 160 events and people.
Included within the material memorized by the students were the Preamble to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; 120 locations and geographic features in the United States; the elements of the periodic table and the parts of eight body systems; Latin rules and vocabulary, including the text of the Gospel of John 1:1-7 in both Latin and English; English grammar facts; multiplication table to the 15’s, common squares and cubes, basic geometry formulas and unit conversions; and all 44 US presidents.
Classical Conversations is a nationwide academic homeschool group that follows the Classical Education model, a three-part approach to learning known as the trivium. Valley View Church of the Nazarene is the host of the Lancaster campus of Classical Conversations.
Memory Master is a program that is available to all Classical Conversations participants.
