PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s recreation and culture department has announced the themes and musical performers who will be part of this year’s Thursday Night on the Square (TNOTS) events that will be held on eight Thursday nights beginning June 25.
TNOTS events begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. in Poncitlán Square (9th St. East between Ave. Q-9 & Ave. Q-10) on June 25, July 2, July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6 and August 13.
Weekly free entertainment and activities will include live music in the gazebo until 8:30 p.m.; a Game Garden, featuring a variety of board games for all ages; a Children’s Art & Activity Center, open while supplies last; Camp TNOTS, featuring guest storytelling at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m, plus Easel Art, Origami Creatures, Washi World and Rockin’ Art.
For the second year, TNOTS will also host ARTown FUSION, a special artist showcase that will be held July 9 and July 30 at Legacy Commons for Active Seniors. ARTown FUSION will provide a unique opportunity for artists of all ages and abilities to display pieces of work and network with other local artists and the public.
“TNOTS has truly become an Antelope Valley summer institution,” stated Recreation Supervisor Annie Pagliaro. “It is that classic small-town community event where people of all ages gather, enjoy great food, music and comraderie. If you want to get a feel for what kind of community Palmdale is, you’ve got to experience TNOTS. And it’s free!”
June 25 | Throw Back Thursday
Kick it old school and pay tribute to 15 years of TNOTS with crafts from the past! Kids will get Stuck on the Square creating their own duct tape wallet (from 8/8/04), get into Monkey Business making wild animal tails (from 7/12/07), and get personal with their own Sock It To Me puppet pal (from 7/14/11). Camp TNOTS will feature all new Washi World crafts. R&B music by Lorena Mackey & the Hi-Lites.
July 2 | Heavy Metal Madness
Go mad on the Square with this metal filled night! Children will create a ribbon soda can tab bracelet, handmade foil art, and a personalized stamped metal necklace. Camp TNOTS will feature Washi World crafts. R&B music by The Ambassadors of Soul.
July 9 | Ultimate Fan Frenzy
Children can customize their own #1 sports fan finger, create a sports-inspired light switch cover, and sport a colorful slap bracelet decorated with their favorite sports team logos. Camp TNOTS will feature Rockin’ Art. Local artists will be at Legacy Commons for the second year of ARTown Fusion, from 6-8 p.m. R&B music by Bump City.
July 16 | Just Say Gnome
Children can make their own gnome cone hat and fuzzy white beard. Take a leisurely stroll down to the ol’ fishing hole to make your fishing pole. Camp TNOTS will feature Rockin’ Art. Swing music by Phat Cat Swinger.
July 23 | Home on the Range
Children can create barnyard animal paint stick pals, bottle cap magnet animals and a felt finger puppet farm animal of their choice. Camp TNOTS will feature Washi World crafts. Country music by Runaway.
July 30 | Capes & Crusaders
Children can make a super power photo frame, a flashlight signal with a superhero emblem, and create and wear a superhero mask. All superhero kids should suit up in their favorite gear because this night needs saving! Camp TNOTS will feature Paint Rockin’ Art. ARTown Fusion will be at Legacy Commons from 6-8 p.m. R&B music by Tesserae.
August 6 | Movies Come to Life
Enter the world of animation as some of your favorite film features come to life. Kids can “Let It Go” with frozen flubber, “Everything Is Awesome” with a stenciled brick Lego© jar head, and let their imaginations soar “Up” with a mixed media balloon art piece. Camp TNOTS will feature Washi World crafts. Country music by Jacob Nelson & The Tone Wranglers.
August 13 | Game Board Round-Up
Retro games are making a comeback! Kids can make a Scrabble® piece magnet, stamp funny faces onto wooden discs to create a memory pocket game, and use retro game board art to decorate their own keepsake box. Camp TNOTS will feature Rockin’ Art. Latin Rock music by Boulevard Knights.
In addition to the music and activities, each week one lucky person will get caught “green-handed” – disposing of recyclable and nonrecyclable waste in the proper container – and will win a special prize, courtesy of Waste Management.
Alcohol is not allowed. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Children’s Art & Activity Center and Camp TNOTS are for children ages 2 to 12.

Palmdale accepting vendor applications for TNOTS
Palmdale’s recreation and culture department has begun accepting applications for interested vendors to participate in TNOTS events for 2015. The city offers three types of vendor applications: craft/commercial (no food items) for $200 per booth space; non-profit (must provide proof of 501c3 status/no food items) for $100 per booth space; and food/farmer vendors for $250 per booth space. The deadline for vendor applications is May 21 or until all spaces have been filled.
