PALMDALE – Three people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and one person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana during a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint in Palmdale Friday night and early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The checkpoint was conducted on 10th street west, south of Technology Drive, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., according to Detective Brent Bunch of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
The results of the checkpoint are as follows:
- 1277 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint.
- 1277 drivers were checked at the checkpoint.
- One DUI – drug (marijuana) suspect was arrested.
- Three DUI – alcohol suspects were arrested.
- Four unlicensed drivers were arrested and sent to court.
- Four vehicles were released per checkpoint release procedures.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting additional DUI/driver’s license checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols throughout the year as part of its commitment to lowering deaths and injuries on streets and highways.
Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Send one quick broadcast text and then the next person also spreads the word about the checkpoints locations, and- problem solved. Keep these government leeches out of our wallets with their scare tactics and North Korean style checkpoints. Manipulated and faked DUI statistics to scare the clueless and steal our money.

so, they inconvenienced almost thirteen hundred people to net 8 total arrests? and only four of those were for actual suspicion of DUI? traffic backed up on 10th West for HOURS, for a net of eight total arrests. and the checkpoint in Lancaster that night didn’t fare much better. it seems like just maybe, scattering the police and having them PATROL the areas near restaurants/bars where people congregate to drink might be more effective. if the goal really IS to catch DUI suspects, rather than have these nice press-release worthy events for the Sheriff’s Dept to put out there in the local papers. just a thought

I would rather be inconvenienced than killed by a drunk driver.

How many drunks left out of the mall and got on the freeway rather than going south on 10th that night? how many went out on O-4 and up to 20th west instead? and all of the police that might have been patrolling and out actively looking for them, driving erratically in every other direction while they left the mall area drunk, were parked on 10th west waiting for the bad guys to come to them! I don’t want to be killed by a drunk driver either. I want the police to catch them, but they weren’t out looking that night, were they?
haven’t you ever seen Tom and Jerry? when Tom is sitting outside the mousehole, Jerry is sneaking out through a different hole and causing all kind of mayhem while Tom sits and waits for the easy obvious meal. get it?

From what I understand, an alternate route should be available during a checkpoint to allow you to choose not to participate in it. But, if you choose this alternate route you are still stopped under suspicion of avoiding it because you are under the influence instead of just not wanting to wait through the whole process. Seems like a catch 22.

Wouldn’t actually having 2 routes available make it a ‘Catch 44’?

these checkpoints are pointless all the drunk people driving without a license or under the influence can easily take alternative roads behind IHOP there’s many ways to get around this check. A big waste of our tax money

I am glad these check points are getting people under the influence off the road. Nots not just alcohol now a days it’s also weed and other drugs that people use and then drive that is putting people at risk.
I think that more of these checkpoints should be done. I think they should have one a little further West they always seem to focus on the Eastside and I hate to burst your bubble but people of all socioeconomic classes drink.
