Moll: you have to remember that not all the younger people know what “Arlington” is. For sure, anyone who remembers JFK’s funeral march does but that was quite a ways back (dang, time flies).
Arlington Cemetery is a place where many many of our veterans were laid to their final rest. Also, some presidents. You have probably seen clips of it in a movie and never realized it. It’s also famous for row after row after row of white crosses on beautiful green grass. Many of us have friends and relatives there.
When the draft was in effect, death of a loved one in a war touched nearly everyone. Because now, the military people in our country volunteer, it is easier to find people who don’t even know a military person.
Jesse James says
Does Dad read the AV Times or are you just trying to impress us?
This is an odd place to express such sentiments unless you’re showing off about how wonderful you are.
moll flanders says
Just took a moment on Memorial Day for my dad that gave his life as a World War 2 Veteran. Has nothing to do with how wonderful I am. Go in peace.
moll flanders says
Jesse—You might want to know that Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for approximately 1 million men and women who have died in defense of the United States since 1775. Has nothing to do with me because I’m still a living Veteran.
Jesse James says
I know. I know.
But, you always seem to be patting yourself on your back for some reason. That is, when you aren’t ragging on people.
Go in peace and be humble.
moll flanders says
I love you Dad! You are resting on a beautiful hill at Arlington. I will see you soon.
