PALMDALE – More than 200 people came out to Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Palmdale Monday for a Memorial Day Ceremony presented by the Antelope Valley Service Organization Association.
The free ceremony included the raising of the colors and Pledge of Allegiance, a Table of Honor Ceremony, conducted by Highland High School Air Force JROTC, and remarks from various speakers honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford stressed the importance of remembering our fallen heroes, year after year. To keep the tradition alive, he said, you must include young people in the ceremonies.
“If everybody here was to bring a young person, it would help us tell a story that needs to be told in order to maintain what this nation stands for,” Ledford said.
A Memorial Day ceremony also took place in Lancaster Monday morning in the Veterans Court of Honor at the Lancaster Cemetery.

Many thanks to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for placing flags on the gravesites of those who served in our military.
