PALMDALE – Local authorities are warning Palmdale Water District customers of a phone scam occurring in the Palmdale area.
The scam starts off with a phone call from an unknown suspect who identifies himself as an employee of the Palmdale Water District, according to Palmdale Community Relations deputy Jodi Wolfe.
“The victim is told their water bill is past due and in order to avoid late fees and/or water shut off they must provide their credit card information,” Wolfe stated.
However, residents should know that the Palmdale Water District does not call customers and ask for payments over the phone, according to Wolfe.
“We ask the public to be extremely careful if you receive a phone call asking for any type of payment over the phone,” Wolfe said. “If you have any hesitation, questions or concerns, hang up the phone and call the utility company directly.”
Residents who have already fallen victim to this scam are encouraged to contact Detective Gilbert at 661-272-2446.

Of course they are. That’s not news.
Mike C says
Ask them for an address to mail the money to because you want to send cash instead. Then call the police. Ask for their phone number too.
Bob says
For shame, only PWD can scam their customers.
