LANCASTER – Two deputies sustained minor injuries Thursday when their patrol car was broadsided in a Lancaster intersection, authorities said.
The collision happened just before 12 p.m. Thursday, June 18, in the intersection of Lancaster Boulevard and Challenger Way.
A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s patrol car traveling westbound on Lancaster Boulevard was struck by a Toyota Prius headed southbound on Challenger Way, according to Sgt. Hoyt of Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
“Deputies were responding code 3, lights and sirens, to an emergency call, and they were clearing the intersection,” Hoyt said. “A car came through the intersection and broadsided them.”
“Everyone complained of minor injuries,” Hoyt added.
Both deputies in the patrol car were transported to the hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and then released, according to Hoyt.
The Toyota’s driver was also treated for minor injuries.
It was unclear Thursday whether any citations were issued in connection with the collision.

Don’t go to Kuzyk Law because they don’t fight for you!!!! I recieved 1000.00 for everything [removed]!!!! I have two hurniated discs in my neck and suffer from pain all day everyday, Not enough evidence… I always thought if someone was rear ened its always the other persons fault!!!! They have a way of controlling everything that goes on in this valley… even if its wrong & against the law!!!! Great people to call on in a state of emergency!!!!!

OH MAN THAT TOYOTA PRIUS DOESNT LOOK AS BAD AS THE DAMAGES IN THE SHERIFF PATROL CAR

I haven’t seen any craziness with the sheriff or fire department on red light runs. The only thing that irks me is the fire department is hitting the sirens right before they get to a major street when the station is in a residential neighborhood. My head doesn’t 360 very well and it scares the crap out of me.
Tim Scott says
I’ve seen the LACSD blow red lights at 30-40 MPH through a blind intersection. The fire department and ambulances are pretty good about getting down to a speed where if they aren’t seen they can at least try to take some evasive action.

You all think it’s easy as pie for the LEOs to do their job?
Why don’t you head to the academy! The department always needs sharp individuals like yourself!
Instead of playing armchair General and furthering your GTA stats, get off your taxpaying arse and go make a difference instead of an excuse!
Everyone on here pushing blame didn’t apparently read the California drivers handbook that states that drivers are to remain alert at ALL TIMES! The deputy will always be in the right as long as he has his emergency signals on NO MATTER WHAT YOUR OPINION IS ON THE SITUATION!
Clearing an intersection is done in a progressing manner. If using multiple vehicles, assigned units will peel off to block the flanks but unfortunately in an emergency call…its usually one patrol car that is responding for that area of operation, this is why WE NEED TO ALL STAY ALERT ON THE ROAD AT ALL TIMES! Our families are out behind those badges. They are not just random computer generated objects that section every corner of an intersection with Swiss watch accuracy, they are adrenaline filled humans who begin fearing for their safety as soon as they wake up alive in the morning.
Say what you will about the driving skills of our LEOs…but realize the difference between you and them is the fact that they did something positive for the citizens of this sinkhole and you just sit on your opinion…waiting for another juicy article to whet your whistle.
Tim Scott says
Did something positive? Like collect the fines that fund Rex’s wet dreams? Sorry, not interested in participating.
Meanwhile, my concern isn’t with placing blame for the collision, it’s with the knee jerk lying by the LACSD in immediate defense of their own, which is typical. “They were clearing the intersection” is a technical phrase that translates to “they weren’t at fault here”, which is the LACSD investigation’s STARTING POINT, not conclusion.
This is how the LACSD goes about policing itself EVERY time. Start from “we are right,” then prove same. They are not unique among law enforcement organizations by any means.

Something positive:
Be there when you when you call 911.
Pull you over while driving drunk threatening lives of others.
Preform first aid before the medics can get there.
Log countless hours solving a missing firearms report.
When your store is robbed, who do you call?
When you need authority to accompany you to repossess property, who backs you?
I can tell the level of your involvement. You sit idly by criticizing the hardworking, yet never lift a finger to make a change in your surrounding by either moving or becoming an active member and asset to your community. The reason people like Parris have control is because of the peanut gallery that never had time for good…but always has time to complain. You probably voted for Parris years ago and ate your words soon after! You troll this site, whatever comment i read, you throw in your two cents inn a negative rabble rousing fashion…then boom you move on defeated…but victorious in your underlying motives. You sir are a troll.
Tim Scott says
Nahhhh. I live in Palmdale and have no direct input on the political process in Lancaster.
As to “sitting idly”…I am retired, so one could say that I earned that right. I do involve myself with my community much more than average though. Of course my involvement is probably in things you wouldn’t approve of, like protesting the abuses of the LACSD even before the feds proved they existed.
And I have lived for decades and continue to live by “there is no situation so bad that calling the cops won’t make it worse,” so most of your examples get a resounding “not applicable” from me. If I call 911 I’m looking for an ambulance, or maybe the fire department.
Don D. Diego says
When you write the check for your Lancaster citation, and it’s made out to “County of Los Angeles”, how does it get from there, to “Rex’s wet dreams”?
Tim Scott says
I normally let people do their own research. You can look at the city budget on their website. There is a page title “Revenue Summary” where you should find something “fines and forfeitures.” Yes, the check is made out to the county, but they split the money back to the municipality unless it is in an unincorporated area of the county. I don’t know how it splits (50/50? 80/20?), but you’ll see that Lancaster’s cut amounts to over a million dollars a year.
Along with all the rest of the money that pours into Lancaster, Rex and his cronies decide how that million gets spent.
Mr fed up says
State law, requires all vehicles to stop and move to the shoulder safely when emergency vehicles are passing with lights n sirens on, the lady was in the wrong, just like the guy on 10th west a few months back with the pregnant woman in the back seat when they collided bwith the fire rescue. Everyone likes to blame fire/ sheriff departments, until they actually have a emergency
Tim Scott says
I hope you are the one that rear ends me when I start stopping at green lights to check both ways for approaching emergency vehicles before I proceed through the intersection.
Hello says
Does that mean you don’t stop for flashing lights and sirens? You also stated you have driven your car after drinking also. No wonder you don’t like law enforcement. You stated you avoid them, now we know why. You don’t obey the laws.
Tim Scott says
Well, it may mean that to you…assuming you’re an idiot.
What I was implying is that when a cop runs through a red light even if they have their siren on it just MIGHT be a good idea for them to check to make sure that there isn’t someone rolling through the green light that didn’t see or here them.
If the cops are gonna blast through red lights without looking, then in self defense we are all going to have to start stopping at green lights to check for them
Mr fed up says
Tim Scott, if I did read end you! You be trying to flag down the sheriff’s,
Tim Scott says
Nahhhhh. Flagging down cops just gets people shot.
There is no situation so bad that calling the cops can’t make it worse.
413 says
Again, AKA “Tim”, how many people have been shot by the sheriff’s simply by “flagging them down?” You’re are a special kind of idiot. Let me guess, you were arrested for beating your wife and blame the deputies. Or maybe it was a speeding ticket you didn’t deserve, because there’s no way the deputy caught you with radar, it was the guy next to you speeding. Every response you have, you work a comment in about police and have zilch to back it up. I’m sure your paranoid mindset thinks they’re all bad, but alas, it’s you who are the who is bereft of any character.
And I’m throwing the BS flag on your claim to military service too. No self respecting, honorably discharged vet would show the lack of character you do.
Lancaster commuter says
Cops could have avoided this by looking both ways. Just because your lights are on don’t mean everyone will stop.
Greg says
“and they were clearing the intersection” normally means they were at a near stand still (to most drivers it is called a slow rolling stop) while they did make sure it was safe to continue on.
Tim Scott says
Lying to paint their deputies in the best possible light comes as naturally to the LACSD as breathing…and yet they are still not very good at it. You are correct; “clearing the intersection” is not normally done from IN THE INTERSECTION.
Rx says
When “clearing an intersection” they do so lane by lane…(just incase you don’t understand the concept, it means one lane at a time) So, with that being said, sooner or later they “are” in the middle of the intersection.
Tim Scott says
Well, they were in a lane that they had supposedly “cleared” when they got drilled…so no matter how you slice it they either did a piss poor job of this “clearing the intersection” or they just didn’t bother at all.
Greg says
Tim Scott, or the driver was not paying any attention at all instead talking to a friend, or texting, or staring at their lap or radio, etc. Happens all the time here in the AV.
Tim Scott says
Greg…no matter what the driver was doing, the fact remains that the deputies apparently didn’t see her coming before they pulled in front of her through a red light.
Did they have the right of way? Of course they did, as they were in a lights and sirens emergency vehicle.
Were they “clearing the intersection”? Apparently not.
dumbandblind says
In the AV everyone owns the road! No one is safe. Everyone is at risk of getting hit. Right of way is non existent. Thats just what I have observed from driving here 30+ years.
