PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) will be offering Rider Relief Transportation Program (RRTP) coupons good for use on Antelope Valley Transit Authority transportation beginning July. The coupons will be offered to the most economically vulnerable and transit dependent seniors, K-12 grade students, full-time college/vocational students, disabled persons and full time college/vocational students in Palmdale.
“You can save up to $10 on your transit pass if your income qualifies you for Metro’s Rider Relief Transportation Program,” stated SAVES Coordinator Patricia Morales. “If eligible, you’ll get fare subsidy coupons to use each month when buying your transit pass from participating providers and pass sales outlets.”
The types of subsidy coupons in the RRTP program include:
- $10 subsidy coupon – Riders that purchase regular monthly or weekly passes, provided that their city or the county does not provide a subsidy.
- $6 Subsidy coupon – Senior citizen riders of cities who do not offer any user side subsidy.
- $6 Subsidy coupon – Kindergarten through 12th grade students of cities or schools that do not provide a subsidy.
- $6 Subsidy coupon – College-vocational students provided that their city or the county or school does not provide a subsidy.
“This is something we’ve been working on for a while and, it’s going to make transportation more affordable for many of our residents,” stated Councilmember and AVTA Board Member Steve Hofbauer.
“The City of Palmdale is always looking for ways to partner with other agencies to assist those who need help the most,” stated Councilmember and AVTA Board Member Fred Thompson.
In addition to the AVTA, Rider Relief coupons may be used on Big Blue Bus, Culver City Bus Lines, Torrance Transit, LADOT, Santa Clarita Transit, Foothill Transit, Long Beach Transit, Montebello Bus Lines and Norwalk Transit.
Adult riders, senior/disabled/Medicare, K-12 grade students and full time college/vocational students are eligible if their annual incomes are:

Meddlers says
Did anyone see the AV Press article on the Lancaster council mulling offering free bus rides to seniors? The great meddler R. Rex Parris suggested using Lancaster money to make the same offer for Palmdale residents. He didn’t mention anything about residents in the county. I guess he hasn’t sued the county yet so he’s not obsessed with those people. Then Marv Crist starts pontificating about Palmdale’s Prop. A dollars. Will someone please tell these two meddlers to worry about their own city and its own problems? We have enough issues in Lancaster that need attention. Crime, bad roads, lack of restaurants, blight, bad financial ratings, cronyism, lawsuits, failed projects, and on and on and on. If Rex and Marv want to run Palmdale so bad, do us all a favor and move there and run for office. Yes, you’ll get slaughtered but you’ll be out of our hair at least.
Question Lancaster Authority says
How come Marv Crist and R. Rex Parris only care about free rides for seniors? What about poor people in general? Lots of seniors are poor for sure but lots of them have enough money and don’t need a free ride. What about disabled people? What about the working poor? What about the young people trying to get an education at AVC? Why don’t Marv and Rex care about them? Is it because seniors vote? Too bad those two care only about their own selfish interests rather than the interests of the people.
Tim Scott says
Keep up this line of questioning and Rex will be suing Palmdale for offering better service and making him look bad.
Palmdalian says
Rex will be suing Palmdale? Rex has been suing Palmdale as long as he’s been suing. It’s something near and dear to his Grinch-like heart. Palmdale residents should know that he is not our friend and means to do us great harm. He is not our friend. Avoid him and anything he touches and you will be much better off.
Tim Scott says
The only city he doesn’t sue is Lancaster. Looking at his performance as mayor they would be better off with him suing them too.
Done says
Palmdale should just do what a political interest group would do and hire Rex as Palmdale’s city attorney.
CAP'N LANCASTER says
Ole Rex don’t have to sue Lancaster. Everbody else is doin it for him.

That’s don’t even counts the Section 8 lawsuit that Ole Rexs big fat yapper git us into. That don’t count all the moneys we spends on Monguls, Ole Rex fighin David Abber, and all them other ones. Between his Eye in the Sky spy plane, his failures on Ecolution, and our junk bond ratings Ole Rex has created a big ole mess.
oh wow says
Great! The bus gets a little more ghetto and unsafe for the entire general public. Why not just offer thug life rides to all the crooks and no one else. By the way, the ghetto is driving escalades on the working populations taxes. Who do you think is on the buses… ?
Idiot says
Yes the bus will get more ghetto with all those seniors and disabled people and students riding. You sound like a Parris campaign advisor. Maybe you could come with a mailer with Rex saying this is a “gang” program. If you need help ask Pastor Gary and Pastor Cecil. They will do a survey for you.
Tim Scott says
People?
Greg says
You contradicted yourself. Sign of a bad argument point.
CAP'N LANCASTER says
Ole Rex was winein about this at his last council meeting. Seems like Ole Rex wants to keep his senior voters happy but doesn’t give a durn about handicapped people’s 0or students or other poor people’s. Hey Ole Rex! When’s you come backs from yer ocean mansion or git off yet private plane come spend some time with the people who are hurtin. Lots of seniors are hurtin but lots ain’t. Why not help the people who need it instead of worring about your next election
Tim Scott says
Rex is probably worried that poor people might ride the bus to the polls on election day…if the secret of when it is were to actually get out.
AV Observer says
Election day in Lancaster? O that obscure day in April when no one else is holding elections. The one where voting precincts are in places like Lancaster Baptist Church where Rex is assured of the lemming vote. The one where the votes are counted by staff. Election day in Lancaster. Someone should do a screenplay on the shenanigans that go on around here.
Tim Scott says
No one would buy it. Too unrealistic.
Director Ken says
Working titles for the screenplay could be……
Send in the Clowns
The Land the Time Forgot
Stupid Is as Stupid Does
Birdman of the BLVD
To Woo Fong, Thanks for Everything, Marv Crist
Dawn of the Dead Brains
War and Peace and War on Section 8
Gone With the BLVD
The Wizard of Rex
The Godfather Frank
The Good, the Bad, the Ugly, and the Dumb
The Grapes of Rex’s Wrath
Doc Rivers says
How refreshing to see help for those that really need it. AVTA is playing a lot of politics with its seniors, many will never ride the bus.
