PALMDALE – Duranguense stars Montéz de Durango will conclude the Summer Concert Series at the Palmdale Amphitheater this Saturday Aug. 1.
General admission tickets are $10. Both VIP and general admission tickets are available at www.cityofpalmdale.org/amp, or at the gate on the day of the concert beginning at 4 p.m. on a cash-only basis.
Gates open at 6 p.m. and the concert begins at 8 p.m., rain or shine. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Carry-in food, beverages, coolers, alcohol and pets are not permitted. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase, with discounts on food from 6 to 7 p.m.
Formed in 1996, Montéz de Durango, led by its founder and musical director, José Luis Terrazas, comprises a group of talented musicians who, like him, had a strong desire to succeed and make a difference in the Mexican regional music genre. One of the pioneers of the duranguense style, Montéz de Durango’s sound is deeply rooted in traditional Mexican music, but it is also influenced by the members’ hometown of Chicago. They have produced 21 albums including the million sellers Dry Branch, Your Look, De Durango A Chicago, and Live from Chicago. Their stunning success has imposed a style in music, dance and fashion clothing.
In addition to the music, one lucky person at the concert will get caught “green-handed” – disposing of recyclable and non-recyclable waste in the proper container – and will win a backpack made of recycled materials, courtesy of Waste Management. Last week’s winner was Chandler Stallworth of Palmdale. Valleywide Dental also gave away an Philips Sonicare toothbrush to two audience members with the best smile, which last week went to Taesha and Paris George from Chicago.

I also went – it was an empty event – a small crowd. I am grateful I won tickets to these events- $40.00 WOULD NOT be perth the entrance fee. There were 90 percent VIP seats available – staff should have allowed the elderly to use them :_
Then you had the three same women who kept running on stage to dance with the singers- and they had to keep shoving them away – so humilating. Poor girls were so desperate for attention.
I did however enjoy the cute dancers- the best part of the show.

I attended the concert last night. It was a very poorly attended event. The city had to lose a lot of money on this concert as the paid attendance probably did not even cover the cost of the Sheriffs deputies.
Seems to me that the city could do a better job of determining what groups will bring a reasonable return on investment or at least bring out the crowds.

I agree Jim. The crowd was sparse. It felt more like a Thursday on the BLVD than a concert. I wish Vallarta sold tickets to it.
