LANCASTER – Local children can receive the tools they need to start the new school year at a Back 2 School Giveaway event this Saturday hosted by Antelope Valley Partners for Health (AVPH), Lancaster School District, Eastside School District and United Desert Charities.
The giveaway event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the new AVPH location, 44226 10th Street West in Lancaster. It is free and open to the public.
Organizers say they plan to distribute more than 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last. The event will also feature free haircuts, free immunizations (bring immunization record), free clothing and games and activities, according to coordinators.
“These giveaways and services are things that will prepare the kids to be able to get a good start to the new school year,” stated AVPH Executive Director Michelle Kiefer. A number of local agencies will also be on hand to provide information on related services.
“We are so excited that we are in our new facility, which is providing a space where our families can get services and other needs met. We are so thankful to have wonderful partners – Lancaster School District, Eastside School District, Ryan’s Wishes and United Desert Charities – that have done so much work to make this event happen,” Kiefer added.

So will there be a overwhelming police presence for when the eventual fights, shoving and other classy activities this sort of “free stuff” event brings out?
