LANCASTER – About 70 spots are still available for a free youth basketball camp in Lancaster this Saturday hosted by Dewayne Dedmon of the Orlando Magic.
The one-day event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Antelope Valley College, located at 3041 West Avenue K in Lancaster. It is open to boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 17. Lunch will be provided.
Dedmon and coaches will focus on ball handling fundamentals and proper shooting form.
The 7-foot Orlando Magic center has partnered with a nonprofit organization called A Foundation for Kids to bring the free youth basketball camp to Lancaster.
“Since I had a late start playing organized basketball, it was always a part of my plan to give back to the kids in my hometown,” Dedmon said. “This camp will be something that I never got to experience while growing up. Basketball is a sport where fundamentals are key, and I’m excited to be able to provide this opportunity to them at an early age. I am looking forward to hosting a camp every year if possible.”
Dedmon, a Lancaster High School graduate, played for both Antelope Valley College and the University of Southern California before he began his professional basketball career in 2013.

I was able to register (before registration closed), but all I received was an autoreply via email saying they’d contact me shortly. Did anyone receive more than that?

I had the same experience. Not impressed. Even if it is free, there is no way to plan ahead.

Exactly! I am missing one child’s tournament for the other child to attend this camp. Not sure I should take the risk.
