Palmdale teen killed in single-car crash

fatal crashLANCASTER – A 19-year-old driver was killed Friday morning after his vehicle traveled off the roadway and crashed into a tree, authorities said.

Anthony G. Martinez of Palmdale was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-car crash, which occurred around 7:25 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, on 50th Street East south of Avenue L, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Martinez was driving a 2000 Ford Focus northbound on 50th Street East, at an undetermined speed, when he “traveled off the roadway onto the dirt shoulder and collided with a tree,” the CHP report states.

“[The Los Angeles County Fire Department] responded to render aid to the trapped party, but he succumbed to his injuries on scene,” the CHP report states.

No further information on the crash was immediately available.

This page is abt my family my nephew and for people that knew him or didn’t know him to give there condolences for this tragedy! My sister lost her son not only her son but her FIRST born son! What if that was your son? Or daughter? How would you like someone to disrespect your child? Or make some ridiculous suggestions abt a [removed] tree? Grow up! God forgive you for your childish remarks abt MY family! I don’t know how you were raised but MY family was raised right & with respect! And if you don’t know what happened then take your 2cents back & your negative comments! We are going thru enough pain as it is he was a great brother, son, uncle & nephew to our family! IF YOU HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY THEN DONT SAY IT AT ALL… I love you Anthony there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t look at your picture, that I don’t hurt, that I don’t cry, felt like just yesterday we were watching cartoons and shooting play guns! Tell my mom I love her and give her a kiss and I’ll meet you at the cross roads!

  3. I’m a little late but Martinez was a great friend of mine in sunburst, such a loving and caring heart. He didn’t deserve this tbh. My condolences to his family. I love you Martinez, and so does the entire Bruins platoon. May you Rest In Peace.

  4. I’m so sorry for the Martinez family loss & to all his love ones. I only knew Anthony for a short time but I can truly say he was one that showed so much heart. It’s crazy because just the other day I wondering how he was doing since I haven’t seen him for awhile to hear that he was doing good. His life was just beginning. :,( Anthony I’m happy that I got to meet you. You will always be in our hearts <3

  5. I am sorry for anyone to lose someone like this, if you are tired pull over and take a nap, driving tired is as safe as driving drunk. Save yourself and possibly others, if you are over worked over tired call in sick, Take a nap on your lunch anything.

  6. What was that tree doing there ? There should be a turn out lane thru there so when your texting while driving and drive off the road you have time to stop they should cut that tree down so when the next person tex and drive they won’t get killed

    • Ok sorry they should cut down the trees so when you fall asleep you don’t hit a tree and kill yourself or put a sensor in the steering wheel that reads your heart rate like a excersise bike and when it can tell your a sleep your car stops I’m just giving suggestions so we don’t lose another young person again they can put up cameras to catch you speeding why not a camera to catch you sleeping then a alarm can go off and you’ll wake up

  9. I drove past the crash site on Saturday night and a couple dozen cars were stopped on the side of the road.
    Many youth crossing the road in complete DARKNESS.
    I don’t think any of them realize how long it takes a car to stop that is traveling at 55mph.
    Please find a better way to mourn the loss of your friend.
    RECIPE for a DISASTER
    -Complete darkness
    -Couple dozen people out of their cars
    -Traffic at 55 mph
    -People crossing the road

    And shining a flashlight into the eyes of oncoming motorist is a good way to cause an accident.

        • She is his sister. She is a teenager and is understandably hurt and upset. She is not claiming to belong to Mensa or any other organization. How about not making it harder on her when she is already in such tremendous pain. I can see from your post below that you have offered your condolences to Anthony’s family. She is his family and so am I.

  10. I cannot believe this. I just heard about it last night while I was at work. Cant believe you’re gone Anthony.. I was just working with you a few days ago.. It was real cool working with you man you always made me laugh during those tough nights.. Im in shock.. May you rest in peace bro even though i only knew you for a brief moment i have to thank you for the memories and laughs.. You will be missed :.(

  11. You can get disoriented and anxious out there because that’s where all the air space is and you go for long lengths of time not being able to turn. Maybe he was lost and worried about getting somewhere on time and got distracted just for a moment. Who knows. Young drivers are at higher risk of making simple mistakes. So very sorry to the family.

    • While it is never good to lose someone, 50th Street east has a stop sign at J and K and if he approached it from L he would have to had to stop, Unfortunately I know this stretch very well and its a farm area, I am going to guess he was distracted which happens to anyone. Also the Sod farm there the sprinklers tend to over spray into the road from time to time.

You got your license, a job, your car… you were helping others… I wish I had spent more time with you, and taken that day trip we had talked about, but I assumed we would have more time to do it. Your life was just starting. It’s not right to have ended so soon. But I know you were trusting in Jesus, and I’ll see you on the other side.

    • I looked forward to working with this young man…he had a heart of gold,a winning smile and he never gave up or complained .       • He wasn’t trying to be reckless. He just worked to hard and was tired. He was a responsible person. He was just trying to get to his sister to take her to school.

    • That stretch of road for the amount of traffic on it is just fine. It was early in the morning and things can happen that early, tired, distracted, something on the road. Once you catch that soft dirt even at the speed limit, its very dangerous. I’ve seen someone coming up on a stop on 30th east n M and as the approached the light the swerved caught the soft dirt and it caused them to spin into the dirt embankment that has built up just before the light.
