PALMDALE – A California Highway Patrol officer on a motorcycle suffered moderate injuries Thursday in a collision with an elderly motorist in Palmdale, authorities said.
The motorist, Lancaster resident Estrella Pascua Sales, 75, was treated and released from the scene, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, on 10th Street West, south of Avenue M-8.
Sales was driving a 1995 Nissan Altima east out of the Time Warner Cable parking lot in the 41500 block of 10th Street West when the collision occurred, according to the CHP news release.
“Mrs. Sales failed to clear oncoming traffic from 10th Street West and pulled out of the parking lot directly into the path of the CHP officer. As a result both vehicles collided,” the news release states. “The CHP officer was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained moderate injuries.”
The CHP officer, a 33-year-old Lancaster man, was transported by ambulance to Antelope Valley Hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Palmdale Station is handling the investigation. It was unclear if the motorist was cited in connection with the crash.

I guarantee the Chipper was speeding, they do often as they firmly believe they are beyond approach.
Travis says
As some one who drives A CAR down 10th street everyday, i myself in a bright silver car, always have people pulling out in front of me when i go the speed limit. The speed limit there goes from 45 before M to 55 after. Still high rates of speed. If you have a motorcycle going 50-55 and a car just pulled out in front of you, you will still go flying.
The woman would still be at fault.
Just to be clear. In a car i still have people pulling out in front of me.
In the know says
Yes he was on duty on a Chp motor, And yes he is doing well. So speed while u can on the 14. He will be back soon then u think.
Thom says
Just curious, was the officer on duty, in uniform and on CHP bike? You failed to mention any of that. If the answer is no to all, then why even say he was an officer? She pulled out infront of a motorcyclist.
Linda says
Why would you even bring that up? He is a CHP officer, irregardless. What is your point?
Tim Scott says
Because him being an officer makes all the difference in the world. He was almost certainly exceeding the speed limit by a substantial amount (ever see a law enforcement vehicle that was NOT operated by a scoff law?), so if he were not a cop he would be held to be responsible for the accident. But since he is a cop they probably won’t even bother estimating how fast he was going and will just say it was the other driver’s fault, cut and dried. Blue brotherhood.
Lady Liberty says
Tim, read the article. The woman was at fault. She pulled out into the path of the officer. Wow, you hate law enforcement so much you twist the truth and put the blame on the wrong person. You really have a problem.
Tim Scott says
Notice there is no mention in the article of the officer’s speed. Wow, you are totally convinced that cops can just do no wrong of any kind and just accept whoever they put the blame on is really to blame. You really have a problem.
If you look down the road and there’s a speck in the distance and you seem to have plenty of room to pull out…and that speck turns out to be going ninety so you have a lot less room than you expected, who is at fault Lady Lib? You tell us.
newone says
Agree 100…Tim Scott. You described exactly how this type of accident can happen.
Harley rider says
I have the utmost respect for cops they do a great job and I appreciate them but I agree whether on duty or off they drive way to fast
mark says
As a m/c rider who drives this route everyday, I can say 3 out of 5 days I have someone pull out in front of me coming out of that same driveway. no im not speeding and its a big bike with bright lights. the driver made an error.
Just Saying says
No mention in the article of the officer’s speed is usually because it was not an issue. Did you also want to accuse the officer of drinking, since the article didn’t say anything about it?
Lady Liberty says
Tim, the woman is still at fault no matter what the officers speed was. She pulled out before it was clear. If you look down the road and see a speck (as you put it) the road is not clear you have to wait. No matter how you spin it you are wrong. We wouldn’t be having this conversation if it didn’t involve law enforcement which you hate.
Tim Scott says
So Just Saying…you are saying that “it isn’t mentioned because it is not an issue.” Do you genuinely believe that in an officer involved traffic accident the “investigation” would even check what his speed was?
Here’s a pro tip…if you are ever in a traffic accident, no matter how major or minor, and the other driver is a cop, whether on duty or in their own vehicle, you MUST have pictures and/or video that can be used to prove exactly what happened or you WILL be found to be totally at fault.
Cal says
TS, the fact that the officer lived gives testament to the fact that he was either not speeding or dang lucky. If he was going really fast, the injuries usually say severe to dead. Sorry, but to besmirch anyone’s good name without proof is in poor taste. And no, the police don’t speed all the time unless they have their lights on. Yes, there are always those bad apples that do. The way we do it here in America, is we presume innocence until guilt is proven. How bout you leave the big issues to those who aren’t bigoted?
Tim Scott says
Sure, sure…few bad apples, blah blah blah.
Do you think that calling me a bigot is going to overcome the real life experience of people? Anyone who DRIVES knows that a cop car if watched for thirty seconds will break a traffic law unless it is standing still, and if it is standing still there’s a better than even chance that it is illegally parked. Those “few bad apples” have spoiled the whole bunch, apparently.
Claire says
The Burden of Proof applies to all people Tim, not just the people you have compassion for. You are inconsistent Tim! You condemn those that want to bypass the innocent until guilty, and rightly so, and then you turn around and condemn those you have no compassion for before all the facts are in. Legal Burden of Proof is NOT an emotion. You let your emotions get in the way of the truth with every comment you make.
Tim Scott says
There isn’t going to be any proof, because cops investigating other cops is a joke. Since I am not a court, and not administering any punitive action, my opinion is not constrained by burden of proof.
Why do you bother, Claire? You should just stick with your usual name calling. The pretense to making a logical argument isn’t going to impress anyone who doesn’t agree with you to start with, and they are no doubt sufficiently entertained by the name calling anyway.
Claire says
I don’t know Tim; when you call people losers and tell others they’re butchering the English language, plus a lot more name calling; well, I would say you are the name caller Tim. As far as your attempt at being condescending, Tim, I just consider the source. Have a peaceful day and please allow others to make condemning comments without you insulting them.
William says
Hey, Tim Scott
Ask her if she’s waiting for ‘proof’ on Hillary’s emails or any other so-called ‘scandals’ invented by her ‘peoples’ on the right?
The hypocrisy is breathtaking with right wingers.
For those on the right, ‘allegations’ = ‘proof’ and ‘lack of evidence’ = ‘evidence of guilt’.
Then, they apply a totally opposite standard such as she just did with you.
It’s a right wing world that they inhabit. Up is down.
Claire says
Too funny, now I’m getting tag teamed by Bill and Tim.
William says
‘Hypocrite’ is Claire’s middle name when she’s not FOREWARNED, bird or moll flanders.
She teams up with wb and Lady Liberty but she’s a big crybaby because I replied to Tim’s comment.
Full Definition of HYPOCRITE
1: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion (Doesn’t that fit Claire precisely as she mouths off about being a righteous person and scolding us sinners/non-believers and acting like she knows the ‘truth’?)
2: a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings (Claire recently thought it was significant that ‘100s’ of people disagreed with me which is a big exaggeration, but now whines that 2 people disagree with her. That’s called being a ‘hypocrite’, Claire’s apparent raison d’etre)
It’s ‘Breaking News’ when Claire ISN’T a hypocrite.
Now, watch her make another hypocritical comment/reply. It’s in her DNA. Too funny, she is.
Plus, she plays the ‘victim’ as they all do on the right while they simultaneously attack others, usually others more vulnerable such as the poor, single mothers, the LGBT community, etc. and not the 1% whose rears they kiss. I bet she adores Trump, her party’s #1 right now.
I can’t wait till Pope Francis tears them a new one next month.
Lady Liberty says
@william
Of course you would know the definition of hypocrite, that’s your first name. Can’t you come up with some name calling a bit more grown up than crybaby. You keep mentioning Pope Francis and tearing us a new one. Well sorry to disappoint but I don’t care what the Pope has to say. I’m not a catholic. I’m sure the Pope is a great guy but I don’t agree with some of his beliefs. By the way the investigation is still in progress on The queen of mean according to her secret service detail. Everyone read the book “FIRST FAMILY” to see exactly what kind of person Hillary really is.
William says
Look, Lady Liberty
I explained why Claire is a hypocrite unlike you just talking out your rear as usual. I gave the definition and pointed out how she fits it with examples.
You aren’t very bright, Lady Liberty. You just shoot your mouth and make no sense. You have no friends. Who could put up with your nonsense for more than 5 minutes? Those people who hate the same things you do aren’t your friends and they likely say stuff behind your back.
You too are a hypocrite. You do to others what you say they do-bash, bash, bash. You just did it to Tim Scott and now to me. Congrats. You win.
You can’t help yourself. You’ve been at it for months now and I bet you’ve been at it for years before you showed up on this site.
Go ahead and prove my point by being a hypocrite some more. You are so good at it.
William says
The thing about the First Amendment and free speech is this.
It’s been said over and over that the answer to offensive speech, such as what Claire, Lady Liberty and Wb spout, is more speech.
But, they don’t like that half of the equation. Claire just likes to make broad statements and is upset when they are replied to.
And, the other 2 aren’t any better.
Their big guy on the right doesn’t want to be politically correct but Claire, LL and Wb expect us to be so with them while they shoot their mouths off.
They think they’re special. They aren’t. Not at all.
William says
You’re the hater, Lady Liberty.
You keep pointing the ‘hate’ finger at others but every one of your comments reeks of hate.
You give off an ugly vide with every comment when they aren’t simply ridiculous. Then, you play victim when belittled for them. We really can’t take you seriously.
You stalk people.
You contribute nothing to any discussion but your unpleasantness.
But, don’t stop because of me. You reveal yourself in the process.
You give conservatives a bad name as if they didn’t already have one. They shut down the government wasting billions of dollars in a childish fit.
You make it easy for others to debunk your silly notions backed up with zero facts.
Of course, you have ‘freedom of speech’ but you forget that so do others and that’s what separates you from the intelligent people.
Plus, conservatives are more driven by fear responses and that’s why they are so upset by everything that right wing media knowingly uses to rile you folks and it works perfectly.
Now you’re fussing about the stock market. What right wing source told you to be upset and who to blame for it because I know you don’t do your own thinking as you’ve shown here repeatedly? You speak in tired cliches.
You do realize that the market has almost tripled since President Obama has been in office and that periodic dips are normal as big investors manipulate it and other factors in the world economy cause temporary fear in a sector that should be run more intelligently than emotionally but isn’t.
You’re always looking for some negative thing to pin on the President or the Democrats even though things have improved remarkably in the last 6 years……well, except for you. But, that’s your responsibility and you’d rather blame it on someone else.
You remind me of another poster here who insisted that as a liberal Democrat, I was somehow duty bound to criticize both parties equally even though as a hypocrite, you don’t do that.
I’ve done pretty good navigating the erratic economy the last 10+ years because I’m not an ideologue and I can see patterns and connect the dots that others are blind to despite all their chatter in the media. And, I’m definitely not a financial whiz kid, just observant and not run by fear and panic like so many others, perhaps like you. You don’t seem to be very wise at all from your comment history.
You say you ‘know’ the truth. Well, I just gave it to you and it should set you free to match your user ID but I doubt it.
You really aren’t ‘free’ at all. You are imprisoned in your own rigid belief systems and can’t see out of the box you’re in. And, of course, you’re unwilling to take a closer look at your own thinking to see how well it serves you.
And, yet, you demand that others live by your rules and beliefs which apparently haven’t served you well given your own complaints.
Didn’t you mention ‘open mindedness’? When have you ever shown that here? You keep it well hidden.
The economy has been slowly improving and if you haven’t been able to take advantage of it in any way, it’s on you. I’m doing fine but I had a big concern back in 2008-9 but took appropriate actions which really made things much better and I’m very comfortable now though not rich by any means.
My friends and neighbors are also doing well here in the Antelope Valley despite all the grumbling on these pages about how bad the AV is. Your environment must not be working very well. Each person creates their own little world in which to live and yours doesn’t sound appealing at all.
Heck, during the worst of the recession around 2009-10, I was remodeling my house as I had been saving money for the past few years and putting money back into the local economy while you were likley whining about the President and Benghazi or something that you had no control over.
I am GRATEFUL that President Obama has managed to steer the country though some very difficult times with absolutley no help from the GOP which, in fact, has deliberately tried to undermine him at every turn, even opposing their own ideas and legislation at times. If you haven’t noticed that, you are poorly informed by your so-called news sources.
Has he done everything perfectly without any errors? Of course not. No president has ever has a perfect record. He is being held to the highest possibly standards by the worst Congress in our history with an approval rating of 14% to the President’s 46%. They have some nerve criticizing his work given the opposition from them.
It’s my job not to let you or Claire or wb or others get away with your nonsense on this site. It’s a rotten job dealing with you and your ilk but someone has to do it. I shower afterward.
Uncle Tom says
Regarding this particular collision, whether the officer was speeding or not is not a factor in finding out who is at fault. It is the RESPONSIBILITY of the person pulling out INTO traffic to make sure the lane is clear, and it is safe. If they pull out into traffic and cut somebody off, it’s their fault. Period.
But I will blame the motorcycle rider. I mean we ALL see them speed MOST of the time, driving unsafe, lane splitting going 20 or 30 faster then the slower cars. Who wants to ride those death traps except criminals and speed freaks. Normal people would not want to ride a motorcycle, so its obvious anybody who does is a bit loose in the head and is at fault. Not some old lady!! Poor woman, probably just driving along all Sunday slow, minding her own business, not bothering anybody. She probably pulled out of that driveway so slow ANYBODY could have seen and avoided her right? Unless they were doing 100 down the street!! Poor old lady, how dare anybody blame her? Does anybody know what her life has been like? Getting old sucks…theres no way she did anything wrong! Let her go..blame the motorcycle rider!
