LANCASTER – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Lancaster this Friday, Aug. 28, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Deputies will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment. They also will check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving.
Recent statistics reveal that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.
Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
DUI checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public.
Funding for these operations is provided to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

They have also escalated this scam with the Marijuana DUI bullsh!t. Marijuana DUI used to be unheard of. I know people been smoking weed and driving for 30 years and never been in an accident, I’m one of them. Just another lie tossed out to the naive public using exaggerated or outright fabricated statistics to keep the revenue pouring in and the jails full.
VXSGuy says
Everyone is always on here complaining about DUI/Sobriety Checkpoints. Tim Scott warns everyone about the Sheriffs department purposely looking to pull some over and harass them. OK AV how about lets try this…how about everyone just follow the laws set before us an eventfully the sheriffs will have to move on to other problem areas. Everyone knew there was going to be a check point and some even know where it was set-up at. If everyone would be abiding by the law then no one should get arrested… It’s common sense AV. Lets try something different follow the laws no matter how trvial and the sheriffs department will be unemployed… C’mon lets try it…
Wb says
Police are required to notify the public of dui checkpoints and dates.but not locations.otherwise it becomes intrapment.like them or not,I wish there were in place when a family member of mine was killed by a drunk driver.a 4 time convicted drunk driver.
Lady Liberty says
I agree with your comments. I can’t understand why anyone thinks it’s alright to drink and drive. Tim Scott always bashing law enforcement. He states the DUI checkpoints aren’t for drinking and driving but to check for papers. What papers is he talking about. Certainly not immigration status because our federal government doesn’t deport illegals. We don’t even deport illegals with felonies. The federal government looks the other way allowing sanctuary cities. If you are breaking our laws by driving with no license or a suspended one also no current registration then you deserve a ticket. Blame law enforcement that is the propaganda that the left is pushing today. It’s always their fault never the person breaking the law.
Tim Scott says
Then who are they deporting Lady Misinformed? Deportations hit record highs year after year for the past three or four. So your claim that “our federal government doesn’t deport illegals is even more of a bald face lie than you usually parrot, apparently.
TRY KNOWING WHAT YOU ARE TAKING ABOUT SOMETIME.
You never know, you might like it.
Lady Liberty says
Propaganda from the left. Do you really believe the lies coming out of the White House or the Feds, I don’t. The border patrol and Ice said they haven’t been deporting anyone. Most all who were in custody were released because of refusal by the Feds to deport. Including the three murders who were criminals killing innocent Americans. You believe your liberals and I’ll believe my conservatives.
William says
Look up the FBI files on murders by illegal aliens and see under which administration they decreased more sharply.
You are now officially a BROKEN RECORD, Lady Liberty.
Lady Liberty says
Deportations in 2014 went down from 438,421 to 414,481. Border Patrol apprehended 486,651. Localities (sanctuary cities) limited their cooperation with Ice. 10,182 requests for detainers were refused. This is from the liberal paper The Huffington Post who states their statics are from DHS. Why are their sanctuary cities? Why does the administration allow them to break the law without penalty? Selective law enforcement which is the norm in this administration.
William says
Lady Liberty BELIEVES the lies that come out of right wing so-called ‘news’ outlets and nothing else and she hangs onto them in the face of documented facts, contrary evidence and even video clips.
She’s in the ‘faith based’ party that ‘believes’ everything that they think despite evidence to the contrary. That’s called ‘delusional’ in some circles. It’s called the ‘GOP base’ in other circles.
Now, are supposed to ‘believe’ Lady Liberty’s second hand lies?
What I want to know is: “Is there a Lord Liberty in that household?” and if so, who wears the pants and who wears the clown suit?
Boo hoo. A librul is pickin’ on LL. Will she recover? Tune in tomorrow for more bull from the Mistress of BS. And, then, she wonders why she is mocked.
She gloated over last Fridays market ‘correction’ and then pretended that she didn’t and just kept on keeping on.
Tim Scott says
Whoops. You are correct. After record breakers in 2012 and 2013 deportations DID drop off in 2014…to a number that is STILL higher than in any year prior to 2012.
Sooooo…you were trying to defend some blatant nonsense you said about how “The federal government doesn’t deport illegals.” How exactly did the numbers you produced support that little burst of inane right wing crap? Maybe if you looked up facts BEFORE you spouted ridiculous nonsense instead of after you got called on it you would have some credibility, Lady Misinformed.
Tim Scott says
How can you “believe your conservatives” when they tell you “ICE says they aren’t deporting ANYBODY” and you yourself came up with the facts that your conservatives are apparently “interpreting” 400,000 people per year as “not anybody”. You caught them in their blatant lie YOURSELF and you STILL believe them!!! How gullible ARE you?
William says
Lady Liberty wonders why undocumented immigrants here illegally are allowed to break the law without penalty.
I guess it’s the fault of the same Democrats who didn’t prosecute Bush/Cheney and gang for war crimes, y’know torture and stuff? Remember Speaker Pelosi took it off the table much to Lady Liberty’s disappointment,
Right, Lady Liberty? You wanted them tried for war crimes didn’t ya? Those darn Democrats and libruls let them off the hook.
Meanwhile, the GOP wanted to impeach President Obama the day after his inauguration for being a Black Democrat. The horror. The horror. The republicans’ worst nightmare.
Poor McCain and Romney thought they had it in the bag against that ‘community organizer’. What they didn’t know was that a ‘community organizer’ organizes a winning campaign. Ask Hillary.
A ‘community organizer’ turned around a collapsing economy, got the ACA passed despite intense opposition, DADT gone, Obamacare constitutional, same-sex marriage constitutional, troops out of Iraq, embassy in Cuba opens, a ‘deal’ (Trump’s big forte) is about to go through with Iran, stock market more than doubled, unemployment slightly above 5% after almost 6 years of steady job growth and NO RECESSIONS ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S WATCH since he cleaned up the one Bush left and on and on. AND, NO TERRORIST ATTACKS ON THE ORDER OF 9/11 LIKE ON BUSH’S UNWATCHED WATCH.
How does he do it while staying cool, calm and collected while his domestic enemies are going stark raving mad? And, that smile. They must freak out when he flashes that smile while McConnell and Boehner have perpetual frowns glued on their faces as does even Trump.
To paraphrase: “Governing well is the best revenge.”
Gimme those ‘lying libruls’ any day. The country does much better. My house has recovered the value lost while Bush was in office. My health care coverage is great. My annuity is doing fine. And, Chick Fil A is a-comin’ to Palmdale, while businesses are closing on right wing rex’s blvd of nightmares. You can have right wing governance like rex’s. The good ol’ boys have done fine as has rex while the residents suffer. That’s the GOP way.
And, don’t even go there regarding Mayor Ledford. Technically, he’s a republican but not at all like the rest in this Valley. They don’t like him which tells me he’s not like them. He doesn’t pretend to be a Christian. He lives it. If only more would do that instead of spewing their hatred in the name of righteousness. What a sin.
William says
While I don’t always agree with Tim Scott on everything, I’m smart enough to know he’s usually got the facts on his side if I were to disagree based solely on my opinion.
However, I do enjoy watching him shred the stupid ones here on the AV Times site. Watching Tim Scott is like watching the chef at Benihana slice and dice.
They just never learn, do they?
It must be a pathology, an undiagnosed pathology that should be looked at by a mental health professional, right Lady Liberty? Right Wb?
Unless it’s incurable. It looks terminal for the next presidential election.
AVSUX says
It doesn’t bother me one bit if somebody has 1, 2, 3, drinks before driving. If that person is perfectly capable of controlling their vehicle then it is of no business of mine and I’d rather live free than live my life driving through g- damn checkpoint like North Korea.
AvoidAV says
I know people who have a DUI from drinking two 12 ounce beers. Sh!t, two beers HELPS you drive better. Law enforcement, MADD, and politicians have fabricated and exaggerated DUI statistics to bring in revenue and pump up arrest stats. They won’t be happy until everybody(except Jager swilling off duty LEO’s of course) has a a DUI on their record. Hypocrite scum always looking for the next government sponsored war to wage. Beware.
2 x More says
There is an Assembly Bill being drafted to double the DUI check point funding in the AV. If it’s passed, expect to see a check point every other week in Palmdale & Lancaster and the beginning of check points in Acton, Littlerock and Rosamond. There should be more check points on the West side to catch more of the Westside drunks.

WOW says
Wow, right by the fair to make sure they destroy a family’s good time. Good job LACS, you must be proud. A few weeks ago I saw them take a vehicle away from a young women, she had two toddlers with her, they towed the car and left her the car seats. This particular area is always a speed trap, two-three motorcycle LACS sit there checking car speeds and stopping cars- one after the other to issue citations. That day was pretty stormy and when I saw the cop waiting with mom while the kids sat on the sidewalk in their car seats, I had to do something. I parked and stepped-out of my car and offered her and her kiddos a ride. She thanked me and said her husband was on his way to pick her up. I gave that cop the “evil eye”, he could have escorted her to her home instead of exposing them to the weather. I am sorry, but cops are not what they use to be, what a dirty shame!
Life Saver says
This location will no doubt save many lives as all the drunks leave the fair. This DUI checkpoint & the CHP Saturation Patrol on the 14 freeway between Ave. D & Ave. S should save lives and generate thousands of dollars.
AnonAV says
People like you are clueless sheep. Saving many lives after the fair? Please. You could’ve even name the last time a serious car collision occurred after the Fair, much less one involving an intoxicated driver.
Anon says
People like you haven’t been to the fair much. Fights and lots of drinking. Since Parris became mayor he can’t sue Lancaster any more for accidents.
Uncle Tom says
So you think its ok if an intoxicated person, AV fair or not, causes a collision that injures or kills others, destroying an INNOCENT family? It’s very simple…DONT DRINK AND DRIVE? Why is this concept so hard for people to get? A large heavy moving object striking something else CAN CAUSE DAMAGE AND DEATH! People can’t freaking drive properly when sober, and you expect the community at large to be ok with drunk drivers?
Now we don’t know what this womans deal was, my guess would be unlicenced, unregistered, or uninsured. But there was obviously SOME reason her car was taken. Guess what, hopefully its a lesson learned. Don’t want to have your kids forced out of their car and have to wait for another ride, get your act together.
And FYI, I’ve seen apparently sober people leave the fair and do absolutely idiotic things, like the genius who flipped their SUV leaving a parking lot because they could not be bothered to drive like an intelligent member of our species.
I do like the CHP saturation patrols during the fair. Very effective at catching DUI’s. While the checkpoints don’t catch as many DUI’s (too easy to avoid them), they still are effective at removing or penalizing other people who don’t deserve to be driving on the road.
Tim Scott says
You are blithely skipping over the point with your blather about drinking and driving, since “DUI” checkpoints have NOTHING to do with stopping drinking and driving. This is just our local gestapo running a checkpoint for papers. They generate a bunch of fines that go into general use funds, wasting the federal transportation funds that are supposed to be used for reducing drunk driving.
If cops could just be honest and say “yeah, this is how we help the locals skim some money off the feds” I could stomach it a lot better, but this pretense that this is some sort of “service” makes me ill. They should just paint “To Intimidate and Collect” on their thugmobiles.
G.Hernandez LLA says
AMEN.
Uncle Tom says
My comment was a reply to WOW, is on topic for its purpose, and was not skipping over any point. Try to keep up.
Tim Scott says
I disagreed with your comment, implying with a high degree of accuracy that your defense of DUI checkpoints based on the undesirability of having drunk drivers on the road was a red herring defense since there is no observed value in these checkpoints in that regard.
Try to catch up before you worry too much about who is keeping up.
Uncle Tom says
The ONLY part of my post that made reference to DUI checkpoints was the last sentence. Read it again would ya. Any half baked monkey could figure out, using that sentence alone, that my support of DUI checkpoints based on their effectiveness of actually catching DUI’s is pretty darn slim.
Bow out Timmy boy, its obvious you made a false assumption and just can’t admit to the mistake.
How about you toss up some valid links that show how much money is received for checkpoints, how much is spent staffing them, how much is received by these fines, how much of that is kept locally, how it’s allocated(general fund, etc), and if you could, how its finally spent. You obviously have all the answers, so dropping some actual support for your opinion should be a piece of cake. Until then, have a nice law enforcement hating day!
Tim Scott says
Pardon me for thinking that when you were posting a comment on a story about DUI checkpoints that your comment just MIGHT be about DUI checkpoints, even if you didn’t specifically say so.
As to providing links, I normally don’t. The reason I don’t is because plenty of people arguing on the internet use links to build a false credibility, and you can come up with a link to add credibility to literally ANYTHING. I count on people to have enough savvy of their own to use thirty seconds and google for themselves, and find independent confirmations. In this case a good place to start is listed right in the story. The last sentence says where funding for the checkpoints comes from.
But I suspect there are plenty of people who have checked me enough times that while they don’t take my posts as gospel truth they do give them a degree of credibility out the gates. Where your posts, which degenerate immediately to blustering in a threatening tone whenever you are contradicted, detract from your general credibility. Unlike the streets, where your heroes can flash a badge and a gun and say “my way rules,” in this media you have to earn your way.
Uncle Tom says
Timmy boy,
You should have been a lawyer! The way you squirm your way out of a hole is amazing.
First paragraph, you continue to ignore the simple fact I stated, in my opinion, just how effective as catching DUI’s these checkpoints are. So you NOW attempt to state your replies were in fact based on a obvious mistaken assumption of your own, there by continuing to ignore the simple truth, which is you made a mistake and tried to attack me based on incorrect information. But thats ok, I already accepted you can’t see past your own flaws.
When asked to back up your own “CLAIMS” with some actual info, you take the easy way out and say “what does it matter, nobody would believe info from some links on a post”, and use the old ‘find it yourself” response. Classic, but not very elegant. That’s like asking somebody to prove your wrong, when in reality if you want people to see your point of view is correct, its up to you to show the proof to back it up. So once again, another waste of our time.
Paragraph three follows two in similar pattern, with the added roundabout attack on me. Then you basically ask me to earn my way, which is kind of funny when you think about it. Cause you have yet to earn your own.
I do realize its pretty pointless to continue this discussion with you. You have yet to admit your mistake, and I don’t expect you to. I’ve known a few people like you, and even when they are dead wrong, they continue to try and shift blame to others.
Based on just this little back and forth, its easy to see a pattern with you, and how the problems you have with any person or group in general could be a result of your own inability to admit your mistakes and walk away. You continue to grasp onto any shred of thought, any twist of words, that allows you to somehow be right and those who see things differently to be wrong.
My replies to you on this thread are done. I do expect some rebuttal once again showing you never made a mistake, and that’s fine. But since this thread has devolved into something beyond what the article is about, I will end my part in it with you.
Tim Scott says
Cool. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Your nonsensical commentary on how you introduced the evils of drunk driving into a discussion of DUI checkpoints with some intent OTHER than in defense of the checkpoints is fine. I don’t believe it for a second and I doubt that anyone else does either, but you go with what you know, and you know your intent better than anyone.
Meanwhile, your condescending “timmy boys” and other such schoolyard draws will no doubt be missed by the rest of the crew who has nothing more interesting to post about than me, their theories on my lifestyle, etc. They are no doubt the only ones other than you who found any value or credibility in your comments.
You shoulda been a cop, so you could use such condescending efforts to pick a fight and then if it worked just shoot someone without consequences instead of having to punk it from behind your keyboard.
WOW says
Uncle Tom (still considered a racial slur for many- get your act together), your nickname speaks volumes. Let’s be honest, how many people stopped are actually DUI’s? Those check-points are nothing but harassment for those with a financial burden that could not pay a ticket, who in return will lose their only means of transportation or an infraction for some other bullsxxx.
As far as the lady was concerned, my only point is that law enforcement officers have become bullies, not here to serve but to harass the weak. Trust me Uncle Tom, if those were your kids, you would have been upset. To see what I saw made me stop and act, because the anger became unbearable and I could not sit there and fold my arms, like many now do- LETS ALL LOOK THE OTHER FREAKING WAY!!!!!
By the way, I attended the fair with my entire family and all was calm and fun, we left at 11:30p.m. and we really enjoyed the atmosphere- stop the paranoia.
Lastly, about your comment “effective at removing or penalizing other people who don’t deserve to be driving on the road.”, I am sure you mean “undocumented beings”- stop sugar coating your racism, bigotry and racism are equally transparent and I can see right through you.
Have a nice day!
Wb says
Wow.I have an uncle…who’s name is tom.should I not call him uncle tom?since I’ve had a family member killed by a drunk driver,if they stop one drunk out of 350 million,I think it’s worth it.as far as tim,who hates all cops,no matter what.and william, who brings up George Bush in every sentence, too bad they can’t stick to the topic.I wish there were dui checkpoints the night my family member,my sober family member was on the road.
Uncle Tom says
Lets start off with off topic comment attacking my name to set the tone. Done.
Then we swing back to the articles topic, and bash DUI checkpoints. Once again, I can agree that checkpoints (out here at least) are much better at catching other offenses rather than DUI’s. And yet I still have no problem with them, because even if they didn’t catch DUI’s, they ARE penalizing people and removing drivers and vehicles from the road that DO NOT BELONG THERE. If you want to take a chance and drive when you know its against the law, then that is YOUR CHOICE. If you get caught, don’t get mad at those that caught you, get mad at yourself for having the arrogance to think you would continue to get away with breaking the law.
Despite what you think about law enforcement harassing the weak, they actually harass everybody. Its the weak who get hid hardest by fines and penalties because they have less to start with. Those who are more well off can either pay the fees that allow them to drive legally, or pay the fees when they screwed up, and it doesn’t hurt them, so you don’t hear them complain. But lower income, or illegal, or whatever you consider to be ‘weak’, are hit much harder, so it stands to reason that they will not like it, and will in turn raise hell about being targeted.
Would I be mad if my kids were kicked out of their moms car, regardless of weather. Yep. Would I be even more upset if it was bad weather. Yep. But WHY was the car taken away? Did I screw up? I start to hate myself more than anything because I would realize I DID THIS TO THEM! Was it my wife/Baby momma/GF/SO who messed up and caused it. Then I would be mad at her! I’m not saying I would be happy with LEO’s, but I’m at least wise enough to realize they are doing their job, and if there wasn’t a problem that somebody else caused, there would be no need for my kids to be out.
I would focus my anger at the correct person/people. Far too often people just lash out at the easy scapegoats.
I’m glad you enjoyed the fair, that’s what it is there for!
Again with the attacks on me and making bad assumptions. What is wrong with you people! I don’t care WHY they were driving illegally, all that matters is that they were caught, and penalized. I’ve had to deal with far too many drivers who have caused accidents when they did not belong on the road. DUI, no license, no insurance, no registration, hit and runs, injuries to INNOCENT people, including their own family members. I see the pain they cause, see the frustration in the eyes of the people affected by those who can’t follow the rules to EARN the privilege to drive on the roads. These people screw things up for ALL of us, with higher fees, higher insurance costs, and more enforcement (both on the roads and in the offices) required to try and catch them, and more hit and runs because many would rather RUN from their responsibility than face the consequences of their screw up.
