LOS ANGELES — A Palmdale man is one of two defendants who pleaded not guilty Thursday to capital murder in the shooting death of a 25-year-old man in Leimert Park.
Dondre Williams, 22, of Palmdale and Tyree Davion Woods, 21, of Los Angeles, are charged in the July 20 killing of Derron Jones.
The murder charge includes a special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a robbery. Prosecutors have yet to decide whether to seek the death penalty against the two.
Prosecutors allege that the pair were following Jones and that Woods cut off the victim’s car as he tried to make a U-turn.
Woods then allegedly got out of his car and opened fire, fatally injuring Jones, whose female passenger was uninjured.
Woods and Williams were arrested Aug. 20 after a police pursuit.
The two — who are jailed without bail — are due back in court Oct. 15, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require them to stand trial.
