PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale is hosting a bus excursion to Descanso Gardens for the Pasadena ARTWalk & Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns on Saturday, Oct. 10.
The bus will leave Palmdale Transportation Center, 39000 Clock Tower Plaza, at 1 p.m. and return at 10 p.m. Tickets are discounted to $33 for Palmdale residents, and $38 for non-residents.
Registration is available at www.cityofpalmdale.org/playpalmdale, (search course 5858 or Pasadena ARTWalk and Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns), or at the recreation and culture office, 38260 10th Street East, open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“The Pasadena ARTWalk highlights some of the best Southern California visual artists showcasing their work in painting, sculpture, watercolor, photography, mixed media, ceramics, jewelry, drawing and printmaking,” said Palmdale’s Recreation Supervisor Paula Leszkiewicz. “Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns is a unique, all-age, Halloween extravaganza featuring more than 5,000 professionally carved Jack O’Lanterns by artists and sculptors in a stunning nighttime display at Descanso Gardens.”
Other excursions planned for the fall include:
Big Bear Village & Alpine Zoo – Oct. 24, 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. $30 – Discounted to $25 for Palmdale residents. Explore The Village at Big Bear Lake where you’ll find a combination of alpine-style architecture and modern amenities. From there, you’ll travel to Big Bear Alpine Zoo, a rehabilitation facility offering injured, orphaned and imprinted wild animals a safe haven. Some of the zoo’s inhabitants include black bears, eagles, foxes and mountain lions.
Football! The Exhibition – Nov. 7, 9:30 a.m.– 5 p.m. $25 – Discounted to $20 for Palmdale residents. The Reagan Presidential Library presents Football! The Exhibition. This temporary exhibit features some of the most rare, historic and iconic football artifacts, including game-worn and signed jerseys, Lombardi and Heisman trophies, Super Bowl rings and special sections featuring the Los Angeles Rams and the rivalry between UCLA and USC.
Grand Central Market – Nov. 14, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. $25 – Discounted to $20 for Palmdale residents. Celebrate cuisine and culture! Grand Central Market in Los Angeles opened in 1917 and has been in continuous operation since. Just in time for holiday planning, the market’s 30,000 square foot food emporium and retail marketplace showcases California’s best ingredients, chefs and specialty items.
Harvest Festival – Dec. 5, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. $25 – Discounted to $20 for Palmdale residents. Rated among the top craft shows in the country, the festival will feature more than 24,000 handmade original items from hundreds of vendors. Artisans and craft people specializing in jewelry, clothing, specialty foods, photography, art, hand-turned wood, music, and ceramics as well as entertainers will be featured at the festival’s Pomona show.
