PALMDALE – A “flash-mob-style” gathering of car enthusiasts packed the parking lot Tuesday night at the Krispy Kreme doughnut store on Rancho Vista Blvd. in Palmdale.
The so-called “Krispy Kreme Tuesdays” gathering was supposed to be held in Burbank, but the event was moved to Palmdale after the Burbank Empire Center set up barricades to prevent the gathering.
“Krispy Kreme Tuesdays started a while back; it’s just a lot of [people] that are enthusiasts to the car scene. They just want to come [and] look at cars… it’s just a big gathering,” said Leonardo of the So Cal Head Turners Car Club.
Tuesday’s impromptu event in Palmdale drew hundreds of onlookers, and the crowd stayed until around midnight.
The event remained peaceful, with deputies from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station and officers from the California Highway Patrol standing watch on the outskirts of the parking lot.
Hundreds of people have traditionally shown up for the so-called “Krispy Kreme Tuesdays” gatherings, often overwhelming parking lots and creating traffic nightmares. Krispy Kreme is not affiliated with the events. A 2013 gathering drew as many as 3,500 people and 1,100 cars. Although there were no arrests, officers issued about 100 citations for vehicle code violations.
Organizers have not yet decided where and when the next “Krispy Kreme Tuesdays” will be held.

Great job in blocking people from buying junk food.
Claire says
And a good time was had by all. Don’t be such a Grinch.
Sad says
They do nothing but block paying customers from parking, They put on their dog and pony show without permits. They found a loop hole. Loitering.
Earl says
Yeah they should do it on Rex’s BLVD where there are few paying customers and lots of parking spaces that no one is using.
Tim Scott says
Rex’s BLVD is a traffic nightmare WITHOUT these guys.
Earl says
True. Even with no cars there it is a pain in the ass to drive there with all the cross streets and trees blocking your view. You also have to dodge panhandlers.
William says
I have driven the blvd early in the morning and there’s no one in the stores. There really aren’t any places that serve breakfast, YET, the parking spaces in the median are full of cars and big trucks. ?????
I suspect the employees park there instead of behind the shops.
There is so much wrong with the blvd. No wonder it’s a bust.
Tim Scott says
Wahhh, wahhhh, wahhhhhh.
It’s a few hundred people who learned that Palmdale is just a short drive up the fourteen and isn’t the pitiful hole in the desert that they all thought it was. Maybe they will tell a few thousand. Some of those will have seen or heard about something that they might drive out again, or for the first time, for.
A few customers inconvenienced in the short term is worth the long term benefits…unless of course you are one of those inconvenienced and are TOTALLY SELF CENTERED. But if you are, who cares about you anyway?
Quigley says
Right on Tim Scott!

This flash mob won’t be back. 60 Miles for a town full of everything most major cities have down in the valley. Yes lets drive to the AV for Krispy Kream, or best buy or the Habbit Burger.
This town offers nothing different or special to make someone drive an hour.
Roads says
This valley offers winding roads around it, and long straights with little to no traffic late at night. Think street racing.
To "Roads" says
Street racing, yes I know check out 40th street East and Ave G from google maps, you will see burn out marks, warm up spots and lines painted for a quarter mile. That’s all these people do. Just like the “Car Club” that used to hang out at porter ranch,
Caitlin says
Go and you’ll see that nobody even eats anywhere because its 10pm or later! Nobody’s out buying anything at that time. Plus, I’ve gone to plenty of meets and I was the customer. Maybe you should just go hide back under a rock.

Permits?! Please……
Kids gathering together with their cars has been a tradition in Southern California for decades. The Beach Boys and Jan and Dean celebrated it on their records in the early 60’s. There was no trouble. Just kids getting together to share a common constructive hobby.
Feel good about it.
Tim Scott says
Good for Palmdale! The more integrated into southern California society we get the better!
