LAKE HUGHES – Sheriff’s homicide detectives on Monday were investigating the discovery of human remains in the Lake Hughes area of the Angeles National Forest.
“In the early evening hours of Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, human remains were discovered by hunters in an extremely remote area of Pine Canyon, near the Upper Shake Campground in Lake Hughes,” detectives said in a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “In an active attempt to notify authorities, the hunters climbed down a mountain and reported their discovery to Palmdale Sheriff’s Station personnel.”
Homicide detectives, the sheriff’s crime lab, county coroner’s personnel and a cadaver dog went to the scene Sunday morning (Nov. 1) to locate and recover the remains.

Identity will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time, officials said Monday.
