LANCASTER – Three teenagers were detained minutes after a home burglary in Lancaster Tuesday evening, and deputies recovered stolen property from the backyard swimming pool of a neighboring residence, authorities said.
The incident began around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, when deputies responded to a “burglary now” call on the 500 block of Heyer Street in Lancaster, according to Deputy Kit Gruppie of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
After a “suspect description” was broadcast, deputies searched the surrounding area and located 18-year-old Carnell Smith, a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-boy, Gruppie said.
“Through their investigation, LAN-CAP [Lancaster Community Appreciation Program] and Burglary Suppression Team deputies located a vacant residence where the victim’s property was left,” Gruppie said. “Two safes were located in the swimming pool of the vacant residence.”
Gruppie said a deputy entered the swimming pool and recovered the victim’s property.
Smith was arrested on suspicion of burglary and booked at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to LASD inmate records. The juveniles were detained, but no further information could be released, Gruppie said.
The investigation is being handled by the Burglary Suppression Team. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station at 661-948-8466.

There have been local incidents of teens committing burglaries, leading to murder. One recently involving a 14 year old boy murdering and burglarized the home of a well known 86 year old community activist in west Lancaster. Parents and guardians are not doing their jobs in keeping these “hood-rats” in check. Other teens involved are just a page turn from committing the same crimes, thinking and being told by their “organized crime counterparts”, that because they are juveniles, the courts won’t take severe action against those. The teen counterparts are mostly adults and when found, should be charged under federal RICO Act.
Their parents or guardians should be their “cell mates”, to help both understand their limitations and place in the community.
Parents, you should check those back packs your kids carry for things they don’t need in school, like burglary tools. No, you don’t as a parent need a search warrant.
If you see guns, screw drivers, bolt cutters of any size, or lock opening tools in your kid’s school bag or back pack, YOUR KID may be a burglar. No…they don’t need them to fix computers.
If you have problems with handling your kids, use the court system as your backup, to place limitations and keep yourself from being embarrassed or scrutinized before they have been arrested and you are looked at as the “bad parent” that was responsible for little Jimmy or Jane in harming, burglarized or murdering someone in the course of committing a crime. Do something to keep them in check, like take cell phones and computers and place them in storage. Limit their visitors, monitor and communicate with school counselors and teachers, and most of all…keep your head on a swivel at all times.

First of all you should fine programs to keep the juvenile active in the community, invest in your teens, keep them off the streets provide other recreation for them. School system is failing our children, parents are failing thei rchildren, society is failing our children. Our children are our future, if you don’t invest in them, things happen, other boys recruit these teens to do their dirty work, then you want to throw them in jail, fund mentor programs for the youths , Steve Harvey has a wonderful programs for teens. Invest, Invest!

Great job Deputies. Once again our local deputies jumped into action and caught the bad guys. There is nothing worse than coming home and finding that someone has violated your person space. Hopefully the property that was in the safes was not ruined by the water they were thrown in. Hats off to the deputy that jumped in the water to retrieve them, that water had to be cold this time of year. To all of the local deputies, there are some haters out there that are constantly bashing you, but remember that most citizens appreciate the job you do, and the sacrifices you make for the community. May god bless all of the deputies and firefighters, and watch over you as you perform your jobs.

If you think “there is nothing worse than coming home to find your personal space violated” you need to expand your horizons…but I genuinely hope it never happens.

If you think there is anyone who isn’t paying taxes that “honest” is clearly dropping to second, at best.
