A driver sustained major injuries Monday morning after crashing into the back of a California Highway Patrol utility vehicle on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, authorities said.
The crash happened around 7:34 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, on northbound SR-14 at Pearblossom Highway, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The driver, a 55-year-old Quartz Hill man, was in a 2004 Toyota Corolla headed northbound on SR-14, according to the CHP.
“A CHP officer was investigating a previous traffic collision in the carpool lane of northbound SR-14 at Pearblossom Highway. While investigating the traffic collision, the clearly marked white CHP patrol utility vehicle was struck from behind,” the CHP report states.
The CHP vehicle, a 2015 Ford Explorer, had its rear deck lights activated at the time of the collision, according to the CHP. The officer did not sustain any injuries.
The Toyota’s driver suffered major injuries and was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital, according to the CHP report. Further information on his condition was not immediately available.
“Alcohol and/or drugs does not appear to be a factor in this collision,” the CHP report states.
