LAKE LOS ANGELES – A 35-year-old man who was believed armed with a firearm holed up for 10 hours Monday in a Lake Los Angeles-area home, where he allegedly held his wife, young daughter and parents as hostages.
Some nearby residences were evacuated after deputies responded about 8:35 a.m. to a family disturbance in the 40900 block of 161st Street East, according to the sheriff’s department.
A Special Weapons Team was deployed, as was a crisis negotiation team that was in intermittent contact with the suspect, identified as Juan Sandoval, according to the sheriff’s department.
The crisis negotiators persuaded Sandoval to surrender and he turned himself in without further incident about 6:30 p.m., according to sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Boese, who was at the scene.
Sandoval was believed to have been armed with a firearm, Boese said.
The purported weapon was recovered, but it was not immediately clear if it was real or a replica, Boese said.
The suspect’s wife, 4-year-old daughter and parents were allegedly held hostage throughout the ordeal, but emerged unharmed, Boese said.
