Man shot to death in Palmdale ID’d

PALMDALE – The coroner’s office has released the name of a 23-year-old man who was shot to death Saturday.

He was Cory Alexander Rodriguez of Palmdale, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

The victim was found in the 2400 block of East Avenue R-4 at 8:49 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Rodriguez had been walking along East Avenue R-4 when he was shot by an unknown assailant, officials said.

“The victim ran a short distance, but collapsed on the sidewalk. He was then transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead,” according to the sheriff’s news release.

Several witnesses in the neighborhood were interviewed and reported hearing gunshots, but no suspect information was available, sheriff’s officials said.

Anyone with information on this shooting is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.

I can’t believe how people can just be so rude someone just lost there child a brother and a friend to many and I don’t think it should matter if he was a gang member or not he was still someone’s child and people should just keep there rude comments to themselves I don’t think anyone has any room to judge anyone because I’m sure noones past was living good and no wrong I’m sorry to his mother and his family for your lost may he rest in peace

    • Im not seeing anyone being mean to his mom. The fact that he was in a gang matters because it shows its not random, his friends and family are trying to say its random so they can get retaliation on the other gang that did this instead of the cops getting them. Do u not see that this wont end if they all just continue with retaliation?

  3. I moved from NY, specifically Manhattan, in a very good neighborhood, and I left my Nike shoes outside the door to let them dry. In less than an hour they were gone.
    I’ve been living in the Valley for 5 years and have left my car open at night, my front door unlocked for 3 days ( by mistake). My neighbor slept the whole night with his garage door open ( it was broken ) and have never been robbed or even attempted to be. Please, I invite you to leave your car open at night in Los Angeles, or leave your front door unlocked while you are on vacation, or you garage door open throughout the night.

  5. Move to a small town away from gangs and one of your kids school mates kills them and all his friends. You live in the city and deal with gang life you move to rural areas and deal with real crazy people with guns what’s the difference

        • He had a great heart, just the lifestyles people choose are different, it can get really petty, but death is not an upsetting thing after awhile because even though he got took out hes still with us in our hearts, &’ we can’t be hypocrites, we just live life &’ make sure Corey didn’t die for no reason.

          • What purpose could his death possibly have served? I mean all the cliches and such are fine and sound good, but if you think about it his death was really just a death and served no purpose. Are the living that actually loved this young man somehow comforted by the idea that you would say he died for a good reason, a purpose?

          • @mike how is it not? That’s the lifestyle people choose, not a lifestyle people necessarily understand, but it means something to others, who grew up with no family, &’ created their own.

          • I’m going to make something of myself. &’ hes going to be watching over me, he was more then just a “gang banger” or “thug”. He was a human being. He was my brother, he had an innocent heart, and just wanted some help, being a judge mental person doesn’t help stop crimes, or do anything but make yourself feel better as a person, because you have some personal issues within yourself. I’m not going to debate or get antagonized, that’s all i have to say. Rest in Peace brother i love you.

  7. This is so sad. I met the victim before. He was seeking help in a Victory Outreach recovery home. Unfortunately he made a choice to leave and this happened. Prayers for the family.

  8. I have been here since 1972 and this area was nice and quiet and safe. I don’t know who is responsible for the vouchers to hotels on sierra hwy or section 8 housing that renters take for granted and destroy, but things have gotten worse and worse. There is crime everywhere as much as folks would like to believe the opposite. Bad people do bad things no matter where they live.

    • Gee. Do you think that just maybe the fact that there are ten times as many people here might account for there being a lot more crime? I was a teenager here in the seventies and I can tell you straight out that there was plenty of crime going on. We couldn’t match what half a million people can do, but we did our fair share.

        • I was born here in 1961, so I find your claim to have “lived here way longer” most unlikely. Claiming to know things about me that you obviously can’t back up is what makes arguing with you so easy.

          Now, do you have anything to say that might actually make sense? This “thousand times more criminals” wild speculation is just an absurdity. If we go with the criminals I knew, personally, and multiply by a thousand we would need the entire current population of the valley, including you. So, are you a criminal? Or just really bad at simple math?

    • Section 8 is a Federally (tax payer) funded program that is administered here by the County of Los Angeles. A city cannot legally limit the # of voucher holders living in it as voucher holders are allowed to rent anywhere within the county the voucher is issued in. Mayors, city councils etc. have little to no control. In fact, both the cities of Palmdale and Lancaster and LASD were sued because they attempted to enforce Section 8 guidlines. My understanding is that since then there is absolutley no monitoring of voucher holders.

    • This valley is getting bad but I laugh, there are no vouchers,bus,or train that drops off people in the AV, you can blame all the home owners that offer cheap rent, the ones that want that guaranteed section 8 check, blame the past leaders for putting a prison in our valley, you look at any town with a prison and you will find inmates families living close by. There’s no hope for the AV, if the sheriff arrest someone there labeled racist its up too the community now to take action and clean our hometown.

  9. I’m glad I moved and took my children away from gang life. I was born and raised in the AV tell I was 28. Been shot stabbed everything. Since then have no problems raising my kids in Casper Wyoming

    I heard the shots, please excuse my question, was this a completely random guy just walking or some sort of gang violence, dispute, or anything else?

    Just saying if this was random, could’ve been me or anyone on this street just walking down the street.

    • Odds that it was random are very very small. Not saying such things just never happen, but for the most part crimes don’t look far for victims, there are usually plenty of volunteers.

    • I was wondering the same thing. This is awful no matter what the circumstances, however if this was a random act, it’s time to lock the kids in the house until it sells and get the heck out of Palmdale. It’s so sad what’s happened to our Valley. I intentionally moved here from “down below” 20 years ago because Palmdale was the perfect place to raise our family. We loved it here. Now, it seems safer in LA than it does here…

  12. There is more to this story! Why isn’t it all being told? I heard it’s gang related & another dude that was with him was also shot but took off before the cops got there. Whoever you are you need to come forward! This is your friend that got killed! The problem is these young kids are so worried about being labeled a snitch. Instead theres going to be a retaliation with another dead kid! Its never going to end! I just cant understand how these people feel like a hood is worth their life and putting their families through hell!

    • Ummmmm…because “what you heard” may well fall under “wild speculation based on nothing”? Or it may not. Which is sort of the point.

      I myself would make the unsupported guess that this wasn’t “hey, there’s a guy walking down the street, think I’ll shoot him,” but I acknowledge I don’t KNOW that it wasn’t.

      • Do you think i got that much info off of speculation? First look at the guys facebook page and you’ll see its gang related plus the cops said it was the same night it happened when we were trying to get home in the area. Also a family member of the deceased said he had a friend with him that was shot.

        • Some people get shot by the police. Have we verified that this was a rare case of gang violence as opposed to the out of control police violence we see everywhere?

          • I know the victim who was shot &. killed that night, he was a very good friend of mine. For those who don’t know the incident that caused this really shouldn’t say [removed] due to the fact that I lost a brother over something so petty..

He never hurt anyone hes is the wwetest kindest kid i know whoever killed my brother is a cowardky scumbag and i hope they burn in hell for taking such a sweet innocent soul. My brother was a protecter to everyone he loved. He is loved by many and will live on in our hearts and memories. You may not have kniwn him but i do. There is nothing in this world my brother would ever do to deserve such a thing. RIP Big Brother Corey Rodriguez. You re so loved and missed by many. Never forgotten. Ohana! ♡

        • Condolences on the loss of your brother, and I didn’t say he deserved to be shot. I don’t think anyone deserves to be shot.

          That still doesn’t mean this was a random event. The panic mongers want us to believe that someone just walking down the street can be just shot out of the blue, like they got struck by lightning. They want everyone cowering in their homes, behind an expensive security system, saying “no matter what the cops do they HAVE to do, because there are people just wandering around shooting folks out of the blue.”

I just dont believe it was random and the more everyone focuses on that the real murderer gets away. Im entitled to my oppinion. Plus residents in this neighborhood dont need to be worrying that this is going to happen if they take a walk in OUR neighborhood! This is a chain reaction and its not going to stop.
