LOS ANGELES – Maintenance on Metrolink’s Antelope Valley Line will continue through Jan. 31, company officials announced this week.
The project, which began on Sunday, Dec. 13, has affected service for the past seven consecutive weekends.
During the project, there has been train service between Lancaster and Newhall, and Sylmar/San Fernando and Los Angeles, while Metrolink has provided bus service between the Sylmar/San Fernando and Newhall stations.
The same service will be provided this Sunday, Jan. 31.
The full schedule will operate, however passengers can expect delays of up to 60 minutes.
The work is in a tunnel south of Newhall. Many of the timber ties inside the tunnel were in need of repair, while the topography of the tunnel requires pumps to continually remove water from the area.
Work crews are in the process of replacing up to 1,000 aging ties, cleaning ballast and completing other various projects to improve drainage.
The work is expected to prevent flooding in the tunnel as the region deals with the season’s heavy rains.
