LANCASTER – A reputed gang member was arrested after a shooting in Lancaster Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Arthur Battee, 26, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, according to LASD inmate records.
The arrest came after a shooting that happened around 2:16 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, on the 1800 block of East Avenue J-4 in Lancaster, according to Lancaster Community Relations deputy Joshua Stamsek.
“Lancaster Sheriff’s Station received a call stating two gunshots were heard and a male black adult was seen with a silver handgun leaving an apartment complex,” Stamsek stated in a news release. “Deputies arrived on scene and were able to ascertain the suspect fired rounds at an unknown victim and then fled the scene in a white Cadillac.”
Deputies put out a crime broadcast that included a description of the vehicle. The Lancaster Community Appreciation Project (LAN-CAP) team then stopped a vehicle that matched the description and detained a suspect, according to Stamsek.
“The suspect was positively identified as the shooter from the incident and arrested for attempt murder. LAN-CAP also found shell casings at the crime scene possibly related to the incident,” Stamsek said.
“The suspect is a known gang member and is being held at Lancaster Station in lieu of $1,000,000 bail,” Stamsek continued.
The shooting is still under investigation. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Operation Safe Streets (OSS) team at Lancaster Station at 661-948-8466.
