PALMDALE – No one was arrested for driving under the influence, but 12 drivers were arrested for license violations and another was arrested for not having an ignition interlock device at a DUI/ driver’s license checkpoint in Palmdale this past weekend, authorities said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Palmdale Station conducted the checkpoint at 17th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard between the hours of 6 p.m. Friday, March 25, and 2 a.m. Saturday, March 26, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The results of the checkpoint are as follows:
- 1183 drivers were screened at the checkpoint.
- One driver was arrested for not having an ignition interlock device.
- 12 drivers were cited/arrested for operating a vehicle without a license or for driving with a suspended/revoked license.
- Seven vehicles were released per checkpoint release procedures.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting additional DUI/driver’s license checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols throughout the year as part of an ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon streets and highways.
Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Dont break the law…. Simple as that you won’t have a problem who cares how much money is made by the check points. Officers risk their lives to make our world safer. Too bad they do not get paid more than they do!
ANONAV says
Most transparent, obvious revenue grab in the history of obvious revenue grabs. Even the “counselors” that work to “educate” people at the DUI “education” program will tell you it’s all about them dollars.

The Antelope Valley- only place I’ve ever been where driving through Del Taco late at night is probable cause to be pulled over and searched, because you know, only criminals are hungry late at night. Land of the Free, indeed.

Palmdale should set up a checkpoint at Lancaster’s Bacon Brews and Blues event on May 14.
Boozer says
It’s up to Lancaster station to deal with all the drunks here. They just be pretty busy with all the boozing that goes on. Booze at the fair, booze on the BLVD, booze at the go cart races, booze at the ball park, booze at celebrate America, booze, Booze, BOOZE!
TOM says
I’m all for the law enforcement but come on lets start calling it what it really is a drivers license check point, bars, liquor stores all stop selling alcohol at 2 am, which is the time the check point ends. So any person driving under the influence at 2:10 wont even be checked. They don’t want the drunks, or else the check point would end after 3 am.

Up to no good as always.

do they ever catch someone driving under the influence?
George says
I wonder how much overtime this cost the people of palmdale. But at least we caught those dangerous people driving without a license…smh..
Shane Falco says
These are almost always paid for by grant money from the state, to be specially used for DUI checkpoints.
Tim Scott says
Grant money that is supposed to be reducing the drunk drivers and making the streets safer…but is actually used to generate fines that shift the grant money into the local coffers without the need to spend it on what the state intended it for.
Tim Scott says
The grants are not REQUIRED to be spent on checkpoints, there are other qualified usage options.
But of course those other options don’t “just coincidentally” provide an opportunity for the Gestapo to say “papers please” to thousands of the the nominally free citizens.
AVresident says
It is important that those people are caught. No license means if they hit someone that they are not covered by their insurance. Which means the person they hit has to bear the burden especially if they don’t have the uninsured motorist on their policy. So it’s not as simple as not having a valid license. Everything has a reprocussion in the end. Better the person in violation be dealt with before they have to opportunity to inflict suffering on others.
Pete says
Driving without a license is illegal George. But I guess that doesn’t matter to you…. maybe they will get you on the next time around.
