PALMDALE – Deputies from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station are inviting local residents to an informal meeting this Tuesday to discuss community issues, build relationships and enjoy frozen yogurt.
The first ever “Kids, Cops and Frozen Yogurt” event starts at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt at Antelope Valley Mall (next to Dicks Sporting Goods), located at 1301 West Rancho Vista Blvd. in Palmdale.
“Kids, Cops and Frozen Yogurt provides a unique opportunity for youth community members to meet the new captain of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station, ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Palmdale’s neighborhoods,” states a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The event is aimed at local youth, but all community members are invited to attend.
Menchie’s will offer free samples of frozen yogurt to attendees, a representative said Monday.
Kids, Cops and Frozen Yogurt is modeled after the nationwide “Coffee with a Cop” events being held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
The next local Coffee with a Cop event starts at 9 a.m. Friday, April 1, at Legacy Commons, located at 930 E. Avenue Q-9 in Palmdale.
“This is a great opportunity for our citizens and deputies to get to know each other,” stated Captain Dennis Kneer of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. “To talk about issues that matter in the communities we live in and serve.”
The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members.

They want to get mug shots early enough, so when you kid rides his bike without a helmet they already have them in their system.
PSS, you know what I want to see? I want to see more minorities hired to work for you. 100% of the times I’ve seen a patrol car in the area, white officers are driving it, let me guess, there aren’t any qualified black or Hispanics around. BS and you know it!

They have to hire people who can pass a background check and get through a polygraph. I’ve seen plenty of Hispanic sheriffs, btw.
