LANCASTER – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Lancaster on April 15, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Deputies will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment. They also will check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving.
Recent statistics reveal that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.
Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
Funding for the operation is provided to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Did they arrest the grown man who’s never even been in a fender bender because he drank 3 Coors lights at the fishing derby, but then show you the picture of the idiot who drank an entire bottle of whiskey before driving backwards on the freeway? Did they try and pretend these situations are the same? This is about arrests stats, growing budgets, and sucking people’s bank accounts dry. That’s how they do it. Faked statistics, exaggerated examples, and emotionalism. Reality? Pfff, reality is for rational people. MOTORISTS.ORG. COMMON DWI/DUI MYTHS. Read up.

Everyone is complaining that driving impaired is OK. What would you say if you received that call that faithful call saying your loved one was involved in an accident and they have been transported to the E/R with Life Threatening injuries. The driver was impaired at the time of the accident. So you are telling you will tell your family members or friends that it was “OK” for the driver was just buzzed. During the trial when it comes to the Victim statement you are going to still stand-by Tell the judge and Jury it was “OK” release the driver. Everyone is complaining the checkpoints are used to check everything from driver’s with suspended/non license, no-insurance and outstanding warrants. Another scenario what is a family member or friend is involved in an accident with one of these driver’s and you are saying your same stance will be it’s OK that they drive illegally. Any method to get illegal driver’s off the road works for me. Accident’s are the worse calls you hate to receive since everyone takes driving for granted. I’ve lost a family member to a DUI “Buzzed” driver as he was assisting another car on the side of the road. I also lost a friend that was closing down a DUI checkpoint and he was hit by an individual I once supervised. If individuals would just obey this simple law drive legal and responsible then we wouldn’t need check points. They tell you the location and individuals still get caught. They don’t care about the other drivers on the road. Why should I care if they are arrested or vehicle impounded. I’m sure the Sheriffs Department and CHP are tired of finding the same issues continuously. The same as you telling someone the same thing and they keep doing it. Aren’t you tired of defending the same driver’s every time they have a check point scheduled.

It’s kind of hard to be arrested and face huge fines if you are not driving impaired, have a valid driver license and do not have any warrants. It seems those that are doing the complaining are the ones who have something to worry about.

This is just a way for them to get more money $$$. The A.V. is a training ground. Don’t drink and drive be safe. Use Uber that day or get a DD. Most of these sheriff’s out here are rude you don’t want to deal with them.

I think there’s an app available to avoid this scam.

Why tell us where it will be, then people AVOID going through here. How will we ever catch those under the influence. STOP LETTING THEM KNOW
Irena says
Because it is a requirement to post the approximate location. Has to do with entrapment and a few other civil rights, but by posting that one is going to take place, it is generally viewed as fair warning,
AVer says
@A – Law enforcement is required to announce that the checkpoint will take place, days before it does. This is one of several things they do to avoid being accused of entrapment.

Another night of arresting barely buzzed, perfectly coherent adults, whom are driving without any problem, labeling them “drunk drivers”‘ and sucking their bank accounts dry, using exaggerated statistics and a BAC percentage that used to be 100% legal- before the government realized how much money is to be made creating another group of “criminals.”
AVer says
There is always a well posted legal way to avoid the checkpoint (which is why they are set up near intersections). This means that anyone who goes through the checkpoint, has done so voluntarily (instead of just turning off the side street before they get there).
If someone is sooo buzzed that they voluntarily go through the checkpoint, then they deserve to be busted.
