How about the next one set right up near Rubens.
Just Saying says
Not likely, the Lancaster/Palmdale border runs down that section of Ave M. Border streets can complicate enforcement at checkpoints.

Wait til they get their little magic wand approved that will detect ANY drug. Won’t be able to go to the dentist without catching DUI for supposedly “being under the influence.” What are the BAC’s of these people arrested? What supposed drug was this drugged DUI suspect using? Afraid posting the BAC’s we’ll get to see much this is nothing more than low level BS arresting people who were perfectly fine to drive? MOTORISTS.ORG Common DWI/DUI myths Read up.

I deal with broken bodies and ruined lives from drunk drivers. How many fatal accidents on the AV times are DUI? How many serious ones?
I like the computer wonks that find a cause to rail against in drunk driving and how unfair and costly it is that the privelege to drive doesn’t come with the right to be intoxicated.
If you want to drink, do it and don’t drive. If you’re licensed to drive, do it without drinking. With all the educational programs for the last 30 years and stiffer penalties, people stil do it…and still kill and injure others while shrugging about how they were fine to drive.
Tim Scott says
Shane, hardly anyone suggests drinking and driving is okay. The complaint is that federal grant money earmarked to combat drunk driving gets parleyed by our sheriff’s department into what really amounts to a “paper’s please” checkpoint of soviet proportions.
This checkpoint caught three apparent DUI violators. The vast majority have caught one, or none. But every time they generate tens of thousands of dollars in fines and impound fees that have nothing to do with reducing the carnage you have to face on your job.
Of ALL of us, the one who should be most upset by this sham is you.
Just Saying says
If the Sheriff was actually documenting the info on your license, you would have a point about the “paper’s please” concern. But the bulk of traffic gets a quick flashlight in the face, a sniff, and random check that a driver “has’ a current license. Nothing is documented unless something doesn’t seem right and leads to a citation. The primary intent is to raise awareness of the problem and hopefully curtail the party prior to “one for the road. Based on the above stats, 94% of the traffic scooted right through. Also the impound option is used far less often at checkpoints then at traffic stops.

Thank you for your service to our community. Some may never understand the horrors of drunk driving victims. Not only the dead, but the wasteland left behind. Once you’ve lost someone so close to you from a drunk, I have, you just can’t grasp the nightmare that follows.

When will the A V Times ever follow up on the results of the arrest and citations at these checkpoints? How many show up at court? What is the result? How about some names? That may deter some….
DUI says
The next DUI Checkpoint needs to be on Avenue H at Challenger Way.
