BASSETT – Authorities are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a 38-year-old Palmdale man and critically wounded a woman during a gunfight in front of a restaurant in an unincorporated community in the San Gabriel Valley, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The deceased man was identified by the coroner’s office as Dominic Gonzales.
The shooting occurred just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, in the 13100 block of East Valley Boulevard, near the intersection with San Angelo Avenue, in unincorporated Bassett, according to deputies Mike Barraza and Trina Schrader.
Gonzales was shot in the chest and died at the scene, Schrader said.
An unidentified woman suffered a gunshot to her lower body and was critically wounded. She was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital, where she was last listed in critical condition, Schrader added.
During the investigation, detectives learned there had been a gunfight between at least two people at the scene, Schrader said. It’s unknown if anyone else was wounded. Detectives were also looking into any possible gang-related motive.
Deputies from the sheriff’s Industry Station set up a perimeter and searched for the suspects, Barraza said. No suspect description was immediately available.
The suspects fled in a blue Oldsmobile Cutlass on Valley Boulevard, according to media reports from the scene.
