LEONA VALLEY – A motorist was killed Friday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle and was broadsided by pickup truck in the Leona Valley area, authorities said.
The fatal collision occurred around 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, on Bouquet Canyon Road, south of Elizabeth Lake Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
Jose A. Barreja, 41, of Littlerock, was driving a 2007 Saturn Aura northbound on Bouquet Canyon Road, at about 70 miles per hour, when he drifted to the right shoulder and lost control of the vehicle, the CHP report states.
The Saturn then veered toward the southbound lane in a counterclockwise direction and was broadsided by a 2009 Ford F-350, according to the CHP report.
Barreja was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver in the pickup truck, 64-year-old Arnoldo G. Juarez of Santa Clarita, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital, according to the CHP report.
