PALMDALE – A woman died Wednesday night after she was hit by a car while crossing the street in Palmdale, authorities said.
The female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the hospital less than an hour after the collision, which occurred around 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, on Palmdale Boulevard, east of 5th Street West, according to a news release from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
“The preliminary facts of this investigation indicate a blue 1967 Chevy Nova, driven by a 62-year-old male, was traveling westbound on Palmdale Boulevard in the No. 1 lane and struck a… female pedestrian, who was crossing the roadway from the south side of Palmdale Boulevard to the north side,” the news release states.
The pedestrian was crossing mid-block, outside of a crosswalk, when she was hit, according to a deputy at the scene.
The pedestrian was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics and then transferred to Antelope Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:46 p.m., according to the sheriff’s news release.
Her name is being withheld pending next of kin notification, but she was a Hispanic female in her 40s, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Thursday morning.
The Chevy Nova’s driver remained at the scene and was not injured in the collision, sheriff’s officials said.
Intoxication does not appear to be a factor in this collision, deputies at the scene said.

This was my mother. I do not have a way to contact the driver. I would him to know I do not blame you. She was mentally ill. I understand this must be hard for you. It does hurt very much, but I do not want you to live the rest of your life blaming yourself.
Brian says
I think she is my mom. She is schizophrenic & bipolar. Sometimes she is delusional & forgets who her own family is. The police said the sun was in the driver’s eyes & he didn’t see her.

I wanted to give a fair shake to our officers here in Palmdale. They do have there hands full and limited at times. They try their best to do what they can with the limited time / resources they also have..Also For Palmdale Hospital not far from the scene..They try to help when allowed to but unfortunately also deal with bills that get unpaid so they have there strict policies
Michael Berumen says
This was my younger sister. Alone, homeless, and mentally ill. She was pushing her shopping cart with her worldly goods. We have not seen her for years, and she refused the help of her family or others. She was a kind, beautiful, intelligent, gentle, little girl once. Life dealt her a bitter hand later. She was a good mother, too, I am told by my other sister who last saw her in 2004. I saw her last when she was 19. Comely, personable, full of life.
I am appalled at those who judge without knowing a thing, and the utter lack of compassion of some. It was an accident. Bad thing happen to good people. Don[t be so sanctimonious There but for the grace of God go I. That is true for all of us.
My heart goes out to the poor man who unintentionally hit her. And I thank him for and the paramedics and hospital personnel for trying to help her. She is at peace now. Mike

Buy the way the car that hit her has old drum brakes made back in 1967 ,I had one they don’t stop like today’s cars , not saying its his fault maybe new car could have missed her ,just remember 2 sides to every story ,
Shane Falco says
Two sides to every story and two lines for a crosswalk. Get in one, cross when it says so but still be looking at oncoming traffic.
It doesn’t matter what car he’s driving if somebody is crossing illegally in the middle of the street, they’ve put their life in danger and put the entire legal burden on themselves.
George says
Hey Shane ur a perfect ass u never crossed in the middle of a st , if it was ur mother u be a a lawyers office ,
Linda says
People that do not have licenses think that pedestrians have the right-of-way. They don’t get that they have the right-of-way IN A CROSSWALK when the light or situation allows.
What happened to people teaching their kids to STOP, LOOK, AND LISTEN?
Johnny says
Living close to this trip of road I can attest it is bad. The majority of individuals jaywalking there are the low lifers staying at the cheap motels across the way. They leave the motel to use their EBT at Del Taco or to reach the bus stop and return. They think there thug life mentality will make everyone stop for them. Most due because normal people are civil. I am not surprised one of the idiots played chicken with the car and finally lost.
My best wishes go out to the driver. Sorry you were the unlucky fellow that was caught up in there lazy behavior. It could of been any of us driving through that passage way.
George says
Johnny
Your a dumb azz to write what wrote no class

George says
Everybody here that’s wrote take step back and think ,ur not perfect u have done stupid things ,don’t condem this lady I am sure I can pick on things u have done think be for u write .
William says
What gets me are people who just walk out instead of waiting till there are no cars coming or are a long distance away.
And, they seem to cross without even looking both ways.

Within Palmdale BLVD, there is ALWAYS someone in the street. Every morning when I take my children to school there are children runiing across the street to get to the charter school, at night there are people strolling-not running across the street. So many people I can’t see until you are within 5 feet of because it is a dark street, paired with dark clothes is just a disaster. This is a nightmare for the victim as well as the driver.
Johnny says
” So many people I can’t see until you are within 5 feet of because it is a dark street, paired with dark clothes is just a disaster.”
Lets add, “and most are dark people”. Just because the truth seems racist doesn’t mean its not the truth.
Mars says
I agree.
J. says
+1 I agree 100%.
tired of jaywalkers says
sad that someone lost their life…. but how devastating for the driver that hit her. They must be so traumatized by this.
Joe says
I was at gas station when this happened, it literally took the police and ambulance 15 min to show up, when if it would have been a crime they would have been there in 3!
Dee says
Before you go condemning them for not showing up immediately, you should know how busy an area this is. I’ve been in EMS 14yrs out here, it’s ridiculously busy and we do our best to hurry thru our calls. Download the app Pulsepoint and see how many calls go out in a day. We run our asses off. The ERs are so saturated and busy that we regularly wait hours for a bed with our patient in the gurney.
Mars says
Thank you for everything you and your coworkers do! Much appreciated! :-) What you say is very truthful and I myself witnessed 1st hand multiple times the jobs you guys have had to endure and its no picnic. I give great props to you guys…Someone should do a blog on you guys :-) Show Everyone what really what you have deal with

Think about this… The hospital is just a little ways down Palmdale Blvd and so is the police station….
Tim Scott says
True, but also think about this…
Patrol cars don’t generally just sit at the police station, and the only ambulances you see at the hospital are already full.

My condolences to her family, but I’m disappointed how people die day by day. But people need to understand that speeds here in Palmdale are high and if you are planning to cross with out the right of please do not expect for the car to stop. Because unfortunatly they can be looking down on the phone or maybe your wearing dark clothers and they won’t see you.i feel bad for the person that dues and the person that ran over this female. Things won’t be the same for the person either because he will think about it day by day and is going to be afraid of driving. Sad just sad !!! For both! ☹️☹️
ANNON says
So so tragic when we lose a resident of our city this way. Condolences to all affected by this.
smh says
Isnt there a hospital a few few feer away from that scene why do u transfer ppl to antelope valley hospital when palmdale regional is rite there. I mean seconds away
Morgan says
Because palmdale regional does not have a trauma center
mistermudd says
AV Hospital is a trauma center. They are staffed and ready at all times with a trauma team. As far as I know, Palmdale Community is not a trauma center.
Mars says
But it is available for those who can pay for the service..or so I hear..
Nikki says
Palmdale Regional is not certified for Traumas
Steve Davis says
That is something that change in this City. For more effective community outreach, medically speaking, Palmdale should have its own trauma centered.
#Letsgetcertified
Allie says
trauma centers do not = profit centers for hospitals who have them. they are usually (not always, but usually) publicly supported. Palmdale Regional is a for-profit hospital, and they’ve made a point of only adding services that generate the maximum amount of profit. AVH is a public, non-profit hospital, which is why they are not only a Level II trauma center, they are also certified as a Stroke receiving center as well as Heart Attack/Cardiac Event experts. if something is really going wrong with you, you probably don’t want to go to Palmdale Regional. that hospital belongs to it’s corporate masters not the people of the AV
Mars says
As I commented before.. Palmdale will provide services if able to pay.
D says
Palmdale hospital is not a trauma center
tmcginn says
Avg is a trauma center.
mark says
I haven’t lived in Palmdale for years now. I’m not sure if this is the situation. Not all hospital considered trauma center. I don’t know the qualifications for a hospital to be a trauma center. I know where I live now, there were two trauma center hospitals and one lost their qualification.

maybe i should have read all the replies before posting mine!

Or Beth, they can just die right? It was an accident and somebody died. Show some respect.
Nay says
She did show respect!!!
But I agree!
It doesn’t matter what you are doing there are consequences especially when you are in the wrong!!! Think before you do. Think before you step. Think before you do anything. No one is invincible!!
Mars says
Although I may agree with part of what you said..you have to realize everyone gets distracted, but it seems too late for this woman to be able to take back her actions but someone out there may learn from this awful accident. My heart goes out to everyone involved.
mary says
I hope this was not the homeless lady I help :(
She is hispanic and in her 40’s :(
Carole says
Mary, bless you for helping this lady. I think she is my sister. We’ve been looking for her. Can you describe her for me?
B says
People Jay walk all the time! It’s so annoying because lots of times you don’t see them!!!
Penny says
I agree! People drive so fast and so aggressively in this valley that you have allot to watch out for on the road where CARS are driving!! People stepping out mid block is a constant problem and for every one who gets hit, there were ten others who crossed and made it. Cops do not bother with jay walking tickets……they slow down and watch them cross
lane says
I drive here all the time, and there are NO crosswalks. People cross the street where ever and when ever and expect you to see them. if you want this to stop, how about some crosswalks or jay walking tickets!!!!!!
Beth says
No cross walks??? There is one cross walk. If you’re too lazy to walk to it then that’s their fault!! I live off 5th west and I go there all the time, people walk where ever they want and expect oncoming traffic to just stop for them. This is a really sad accident but sadly it was bound to happen. People need to be less lazy and walk to the damn crosswalk!
Daniel says
I agree. Many pedestrians cross the street anywhere they want and sometimes directly in from of moving vehicles. Their thoughts must be that drivers have to and will stop. Some do stop which is dangerous because the vehicles behind them do not always see the reason for stopping and can possibly rear-end the stopper. Jaywalkers are a danger to themselves and others. I know it’s hot and uncomfortable, but jaywalking does not help the situation. Jaywalkers really need to be smarter and more careful. I’m sorry to hear someone died due to jaywalking. RIP.
les says
See that traffic light in the picture that is about half a block away from the scene, there is a crosswalk right there.
kee says
Bytch shutt the [removed] you sound stupid [removed] beth you should of [removed]
Joe says
Great point kee.well thought out.way too get your point across.
TM says
Well told !!! I understand someone does, but it’s a part of life people die everyday in any situation, it was just her time to go, and it could have been prevented…if she would have used a crosswalk…but people also get hit using the cross walk as well …..
TM says
Dies*not does
Jon says
No crosswalk huh? 5th east there’s one…also another at 3rd.
Goeorge says
Some of you ,got a negative side ,that you don’t have compassion for this family ,kids or others u all have answers ur perfect i be you all use ur cell phones by the law. Lol women drivers and men do the most stupid thing . Linda. Yea u
C says
You can see from the picture, there IS a cross walk right there where the light is. People on Palmdale Blvd. just cross where ever they want. I live in Palmdale, there is a crosswalk at every intersection. She probably thought she could make it or the driver will stop?
