PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale’s novice swim team, comprised of 35 swimmers ages 7 to 17 from the Palmdale Oasis and Marie Kerr Park pools, participated in the LA84 Summer Swim Festival recently and took home first place in the small agency category.
Competing against swimmers from Santa Monica, South Gate, Burbank, Ventura and La Mirada, Team Palmdale finished with 138 overall points for the victory.
The event was held Sunday, Aug. 14, at the Santa Clarita Swim Complex.
“We’re really proud of our kids from Palmdale who put in a great team effort at the Festival,” stated Recreation Coordinator Jacki Nuss. “Our swim program is something we work very hard at making a positive and successful experience for our residents, and to see these results from their lessons and training is quite rewarding.”
The swim festival included events in freestyle, breaststroke, freestyle medley, butterfly and individual medley.
The LA84 Foundation Summer Aquatics Program provides basic instruction and competitive opportunities in swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming. More than 15,000 youngsters, ages 7 to 17, benefit from the Summer Aquatics Program each year. There are four culminating events: Swim Festival, Synchronized Swimming Festival, Diving Festival, and Water Polo Festival.
