PALMDALE – At least six vehicles parked at a Palmdale Park and Ride station were broken into and burglarized early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The break-ins were reported around 3:12 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at 434 W. Avenue S, according to Lt. Glenn Brandon of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Palmdale station.
Some of the owners who were getting to the park and ride lot from work in a ride share van arrived to find their vehicles ransacked and some of their property taken, according to a videographer at the scene.
The estimated value of the stolen property was not immediately available.
Brandon said there was no suspect information and he didn’t believe there were any video cameras in the area.
A man at the scene who did not want to be identified told news photographers he saw “some youngsters” using paintball guns and hammers to vandalize vehicles at the park and ride lot, and he was able to stop them and run them off. The suspects fled the scene in a silver Chevy Cobalt, the witness said. His story could not be confirmed with sheriff’s detectives at the scene.
Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station at 661-272-2400.

This is a FREE service provided by the city. Park at your own risk. Security cameras, patrols, and guards all cost money, and seeing that not everyone uses the park and ride service it is not fare to burden the taxpayers with it. The best thing for the city to do is charge people $5 for parking and have a gaurd and cameras 24/7. But then cheap ass people will stop useing it and cry becuase they can no longer park for free. Stop being a bunch of bitches.

I think it is terrible that there seems to be a total lack of regard for peoples personal property, that these young men seem to think it is fun to vandalize. However, I am surprised at comments made here and on other sites where people seem to hold the City responsible and believe they are disregarding the security of vehicles parked in these Public lots. Cars are Broken into everywhere, in secure lots, at the mall, in the Walmart lots. In front of your Home, in your driveway, etc. I don’t blame the “city” when my Car is Broken into in my driveway or if its oarjed on the street. I personally don’t believe it is the City’s responsibility to ensure they are Safe. I was curious how they handle the lots so I picked up the phone and called city hall and spoke to the security supervisor. He explained how the lots are patrolled, I asked him several questions all of which he very politely answered. The reality is the City provides these FREE to Park lots as a convenience for residents, they are posted “Park at your own risk”, the City does provide security 18 hrs of the day, plus there are other Officers randomly checking the lots as well. So I think the City does pay attention and they do care, but the reality is the guards can’t ve everywhere at once and lets face it, its easy enough to wait to see them leave, smash, grab and go without anyone seeing you. Would cameras help? IDK, maybe but I doubt it. People steal from stores everyday and nearly all stores have cameras. Maybe it would help the police arrest them, but I seriously doubt it would be a deterrent. Just my thoughts, personally I would rather the city pay for more police. They have their hands full up here and could use some More help.

What I want to know is why the City of Palmdale Council refuses to install security monitoring cameras in the carpool lots. This is not a new problem! We switched from the lot east of the freeway to the one west of the freeway, specifically because of the amount of vandalism on the east lot. We’ve talked to the Council, and they will not install security cameras.

“Park and Ride” is displayed with signs and one may think “hey, this place must be safe for me and my car” but, it is not. This is disappointing experience and something should be done about it — Cameras, more patrols, and whatever else that can help. It needs to be done immediately or the park and rides should be closed for failing to be a safe place to park your car.
NV says
Had the same thing happen on Geiger -Westside Park n Ride on Friday Sept. 23- theives smashed many windows and threw items all over the place – someone had to have seen something! The cars broken into were all over the lot, so they were there for a good amount of time! Sad that you can’t leave your car in a secure place at night (or day) anymore!
M says
Used to park here to commute to the valley came back one afternoon from work car was stolen no type of security or cameras either
Tim Scott says
OMG! A crime! Run!!!! Run while you can!
You people crack me up. Do you really think there has never been a smash and grab spree at a park and ride ever before, anywhere? The over reaction level around here is hysterically funny.
Vic says
Yeah, like crime never happens anywhere else. Try reading the http://www.scvnews.com crime blotter. Go live in LA, Pacoima, San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga, Altadena, Sylmar, Tujunga, Irwindale, Oakland, El Centro, Modesto, and dozens of other places with more crime. !
Shane Falco says
I guess the hard working commuters, getting up early and carpooling shouldn’t be concerned…right, Tim? I guess compared to the litany of other crimes in the AV a simple felony burglary isn’t a big deal. I mean, it’s not like anybody is getting murdered at this park and ride.
Paul S says
Tim, somehow I doubt you would be “cracking up” if one of the cars broken in to was yours.
Tim Scott says
I’d be fixing my window and getting on about my business. As I have when my truck was broken into, which didn’t happen in the AV, and when my car was broken into, which was also not in the AV. Live long enough and stuff happens, no matter where you are at the time.
Also note that the dingbats crying about life in the AV “becoming unbearable” are not people who’s cars got broken into either.
Paul S says
I get that “life moves on”, but do you expect people to be optimistic about the condition of the city they live in when this kind of stuff happens? This is an article read by the public and members of the community are free to post their reactions. What do you think the tone of their posts are going to be like? I, for one, would be livid if this happened to me and I would hope that something would be done about it. However, this is obviously a complex issue stemming from the poor situation facing disadvantaged youth in the area and not easily solvable.
Tim Scott says
“Do I expect people to be optimistic about the condition of the city when this kind of stuff happens?”
If “this kind of stuff” were the ONLY thing happening, no.
If “this kind of stuff” never happened anywhere else, no.
But neither of those are the situation. Neither of those are even CLOSE to the situation. People in Palmdale need only look ten miles up the road to see what the consequences of genuinely bad city government are. They only need to do a five minute “research” on the internet to find out where Palmdale actually ranks in regards to crime rates. So when they let one blue moon event send them running in circles screaming like frightened children I openly scoff at them.
Patriot says
Its lancaster fault?
Tim Scott says
That it provides the best example of terrible local government since Bell got shut down? Yeah, that’s their fault. Who else’s fault could that be?
Patriot says
Oh, I thought the article was about park and ride breakins……in palmdale.so the article is about lancaster government is bad, so thats why someone broke into cars, in palmdale.makes perfect sense. Lol
Tim Scott says
Yeah. That’s what the article was about. Which is why I made fun of the people who tried to turn it into some sort of sky is falling end of the world nonsense.
I assume despite the name change you are one of those, though perhaps you are a slightly different strain of dingbat.
Patriot says
The criminals are the victims.nothing to see here.just fix your window and shut up.if it happens again, too bad.
Libs have been shoving this nonsense down your throats fo 8 years.get used I to it.
Patriot says
And there you have another example of education in the antelope valley.well said.
I think we all know who happy aver is.
Tim Scott says
Your dad?
Just curious.
Tim Scott says
My response to your nonsense, by the way, is awaiting moderation, but I did get a laugh there from this exchange.
marie says
AV needs more sheriff’s, cameras security guards to protect the people here in the AV that do work because the good people in the AV will eventually move out and all you will be left with is the thieves and the drug dealers and the drug users and the homeless, now try to run your city with that
marie says
The AV is becoming unbearable to live in….Can’t part at the mall, park and rides, can’t walk down the street. why doesn’t the city do more
ed says
why does the city have to do something about it? how about Parents take responsability for their kids and actually raise them right, always blaming other people, parents need to teach their kids how to be good citizens, with good morals. If you’re a horrible parent dont expect much from your kids I see parents treating their kids like dirt at retail stores all the time, that is not the job of a city.
Laughing says
Honestly it is not always on the parents. Many parents demonstrate how to be productive positive members of society and the teen child will still act out when outside the sphere of the responsible adult.
It is a lesson I learned and had to accept that the actions of the teen do not mean I was a bad parent.
TM says
No it’s just people in general, they are disrespectful, not educated, irresponsible, and most likely on drugs….oh also too lazy to find a ” real” way to make money, probably can’t hold a job, or never had one….. because they depend on the state or family to help them out and don’t have the balls to do it themselves….welcome to the AV , enjoy your stay!!!!!
Tim Scott says
At times like this I always wonder how the speaker thinks they became inhuman. You say “people in general” are all these things, yet no doubt you think you are none of those things. Are you a pomegranate?
