LANCASTER – A motorcyclist died Thursday afternoon in a traffic collision in Lancaster, authorities said.
The fatal collision occurred around 1:03 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the intersection of 4th Street East and Avenue M (Columbia Way), according to a news release from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
“The preliminary facts of this investigation indicate the vehicle involved was traveling eastbound on Avenue M (Columbia Way) approaching 4th Street East. A motorcyclist was traveling westbound when suddenly the vehicle turned left in front of the motorcycle,” the news release states.
“The motorcyclist was ejected and collided with a truck waiting to make a westbound right turn onto Avenue M,” the news release states.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at Antelope Valley Hospital, according to the news release.
He was identified as 38-year-old Giancarlo DeJesus Pellicier of Lancaster, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Avenue M was closed from 10th Street East to Sierra Highway for nearly four hours to allow for the collision scene investigation, officials said.
Anyone with information regarding this traffic collision is encouraged to contact the Palmdale Station’s Traffic Department at 661-272-2400. The incident remains under investigation.

I ride this route everyday on my motorcycle, and everyday someone pulls out from 10th or 20th right in front of me. I need to keep my speed down and eyes peeled to the traffic at all times. a number of times I have had to hit the binders because of people not paying attention and being in a hurry to get to the next light. RIP and condolences to his family and friends.

You do realize that a motocycle or bicycle isn’t as visible from the front or rear as a car.
Plus, I suspect that the human eye can’t tell the speed as readily looking at a motocycle or bicycle from the front or rear as it can a car, truck or RV.
Do riders of bikes know that?
Tim Scott says
Generally yes, they do. By the way, the person who pulled right out in front of me this weekend somehow missed seeing a full sized car bearing down on them, so motorcyclists can’t expect too much.
Laughing says
That is why drivers should be trained to look for people not cars.
The person behind the wheel, the person riding a bicycle, the person walking.
Make eye contact if you can not see their eyes then they may not see you so take a moment and wait.
Tim Scott says
Well…I mostly agree, but…
In my case the speed limit was fifty-five. If someone is close enough to make eye contact, great, but in truth even if they aren’t they may be too close to pull out in front of.
I think I probably was close enough for eye contact though, but somehow me AND my car were momentarily rendered invisible.
William says
What about training people who walk and ride bikes to do the same?
You forgot that.
One would think that the person with the greatest risk to their own life and limb would be the most vigilant but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The car versus bike/pedestrian is an asymmetrical contest. Putting all the responsibility on the car driver is fine. You will be dead right.
Laughing says
No where did I put all the burden on the driver. We were talking about drivers, thus I spoke of drivers.
If you want to talk about pedestrians then lets talk pedestrians and how way too many of them take the ‘pedestrians right of way’ to mean they have the right to walk wherever they want whenever they want. What that right of way means is that at intersections when a pedestrian is crossing the turning car has to give right of way. When a pedestrian is crossing mid street drivers should also yield right of way if safe to do so, of course the pedestrian should not be crossing mid-street unless it is relatively safe to start and end the crossing.
So responsibility is on EVERYONE to pay attention, try to make that eye contact, even seeing which way their head is looking helps to determine safety margins.
Rusty says
People always whip out to make their left or right to be ahead of everyone else and when they do they do it slowly as possible. Also not saying your buddy but I see a lot of riders lately going in extreme excess of the speed limit. Riders feel they have 100% of the right away but one thing no one realizes is they know the speed limit is 55-60 on M and they judge for that but its harder when someone is doing 75. Don’t be a squid, Ride safe and stay alive my friend.

There probably aren’t any intersections on Ave M from Sierra Highway to 50th E that don’t merit having a traffic light. But Lancaster doesn’t have the money since it all goes into the pockets of Wrecks and his cronies.
Condolences to the families.
