LANCASTER – An unidentified female passenger died Friday morning after the car she was riding in collided with a van in a Lancaster intersection, authorities said.
The fatal collision happened around 7:36 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the intersection of Avenue H and Suffolk Drive, a “T” intersection controlled by a stop sign on Suffolk Drive only, according to a news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
“Preliminary information gathered at the scene revealed a Toyota sedan being driven by an adult male with a female adult passenger… was making a left turn from Suffolk Drive [onto] Avenue H in front of a Chevy Van driving east on Avenue H,” the news release states.
“The two vehicles collided in the intersection, causing the adult female to partially eject from the Toyota,” the news release states.
All parties in the collision were transported to the hospital, where the female passenger passed away, sheriff’s officials said.
The woman’s identity has not yet been determined, coroner’s officials said Friday evening.
“Driving under the influence does not appear to be a factor, and the speed of the vehicles is under investigation,” the sheriff’s news release states.
Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact traffic investigators at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station by calling 661-948-8466.
UPDATE: The deceased female passenger has been identified as 78-year-old Esperanza Ruiz of Lancaster, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

It don’t matter if you’re drunk or the rate of speed. If you turn in front of somebody doing the speed limit the damage will be significant.
STOP at the sign and look both ways before proceeding. Don’t just stop. Others may have the right of way.
