LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County’s elections chief on Monday denounced allegations by President-elect Donald Trump of widespread election fraud, calling it a “broad brush” accusation without substantiation that threatens to undermine public confidence in the system.
“It is frustrating to see this ongoing politicization of the voting process even as California elections administrators continue the tedious and transparent process of canvassing the November 8th general election,” said Dean Logan, the county’s registrar-recorder/county clerk and president of the California Association of Clerks and Election Officials.
“Broad brush allegations of voter fraud and illegal voting serve only to undermine the public’s trust and confidence in the elections process and run the risk of further deflating voter participation,” he said. “California elections administrators take the integrity of elections and access to voting very seriously. Our state has a history of accurate and accountable elections. Additionally, the voting process in California is open, transparent and subject to public oversight and review.”
Over the weekend, Trump posted a series of messages on Twitter, contending that “in addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.”
He alleged there was “serious voter fraud in Virginia, New Hampshire and California,” although he did not provide any specifics or evidence to support his allegations.
The most recent vote tally from the Nov. 8 election show that while Trump won the electoral votes needed to become president-elect, he trails Democrat Hillary Clinton by about 2 million votes in the popular vote.
California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, a Democrat, slammed Trump’s comments in a statement issued late Sunday.
“It appears that Mr. Trump is troubled by the fact that a growing majority of Americans did not vote for him,” Padilla said. “His unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud in California and elsewhere are absurd. His reckless tweets are inappropriate and unbecoming of a president-elect.”

As I recall, during my voting, I saw several “legally questionable” people voting. More than several were not listed as registered voters on the list, so either the people would just find a name and give the person a ballot or the individual would fill out a separate (on the spot) voter registration card. Question is, after filling out a voter registration card on the spot, would that individual be checked for legal voting status (eg, convicted felon or illegal immigrant)? Once the voting ballot is cast did california ever go back and recheck how many votes california recieved vs how many registered voters there were?
Tim Scott says
I would love to see one of you “they just found a name” witnesses step forward and provide a where, when and who. Of course despite about half the Republicans in town “seeing it happen” there has been not one filed report. Not a single official Republican party monitor (yes, every polling place had them) saw this happen. Not one of you anonymous commenters that saw it bothered to get the name of this poll worker blatantly committing a crime right in front of you. It smacks of internet legend rather than fact.
Meanwhile, yes, anyone who isn’t listed and has proper identification is legally entitled to fill out a PROVISIONAL ballot. If their issue is resolved then their ballot will be counted.
William says
Beautiful reply, Tim Scott. Simply beautiful.
This election has exposed the fake news that millions of Americans believe and repeat.
Facts don’t matter to these people. Videos of events or statements don’t matter.
Now, what do we do about that?
Laughing says
Good questions.
BTW you can report the incident of the workers looking up no-show voters and using those for walk-ins. They get to serve jail time if proven!
The voter registration would not be valid for this election since it was filled in past the deadline. Making any vote cast based on that registration void. However, when it is checked is a great question.
Are you serious? says
Please enlighten us on how you determined someone appeared “legally questionable”? Was it because they were different from you?
questions says
who is watching lancasters elections?
Marta says
At my polling place, the poll workers weren’t even bothering to ask anyone for an I.D., they just let people come in an vote, find a “name” that they could claim on the roster, got their ballots…and voted! No questions asked.
It was a little disconcerting, to say the least. I’m a lifelong Democrat and have family that fought in three wars, so I take my voting rights very seriously.
Do I believe that there was voting fraud in my precinct? Hell yeah! No questions asked.
Jimm says
Democrats let them ( illegals ) vote for a reason.
I wonder if CA will become a red state after all illegals get deported.
Tim Scott says
So, gee, why do you think the REPUBLICANS monitoring the polls “let them vote”? Loosen the chinstrap, your tin foil hat is cutting off circulation to your brain.
Really? says
An uninformed citizen is the worst! Poll workers did not ask anyone for ID because it’s against the law in California to do so!
Tim Scott says
Sure they did. Were you by chance off your meds on election day?
If you are going to make wild accusations against poll workers and monitors (hey, guess what, poll monitors are provided by BOTH parties) try making them somewhere that you will be asked for real information rather than spewing them anonymously where other tin foil hatters will latch onto your “facts” and run with them.
Marta says
Excuse you? Who do you think you’re talking to????? I didn’t come on here and personally insult you for sharing your opinion, so please give me the same courtesy!
Tim Scott says
I didn’t insult you for sharing your opinion. I insulted you for presenting as fact these “observations” that are clearly absurd for numerous reasons.
Anonymous says
@Tim Scott
You insult everyone who doesn’t agree with you all the time. I have been a poll worker and supervisior on several different elections. There are many ways for fraud to happen. It can happen by the voting public and by the poll workers. I have seen how first hand. In California illegals vote without proof of anything.
Tim Scott says
So, anonymous poll worker, what do you think of the “facts” of the case Marta presented? That poll workers were allowing people to just come in and peruse the rolls looking for a likely name to claim? Do you think that was really happening?
As a poll worker or supervisor, please explain how you know “illegals vote without proof of anything”? Did they come to your polling place, vote, and then say “ha ha, I’m an illegal”? Since they didn’t provide “proof of anything” how would you know they were “illegals”? Or is what you are really saying “those dratted brown people came in and voted, and because I’m a bigot I assume they must be illegals”?
Lancaster Voter says
They ought to look into Lancaster’s elections. Held in April on off years. Voting booths at political churches like Lancaster Baptist. Votes counted at Lancaster City Hall by staff. What could possibly go wrong?
Tim Scott says
What would be a more interesting thing to do is produce evidence that Lancaster Baptist uses their pulpit as a political endorsement. The IRS would undoubtedly love to yank their non-profit status and tax them.
Unfortunately, the state election laws allow for the odd timed elections, so the only angle on that is to change the state law. Otherwise you have to prove that it is being done with the clear intent of forcing the outcome, and intent is basically impossible to prove…especially with a slimy character like Wrecks.
Lancaster Voter says
It’s pretty evident that Lancaster Baptist is connected to the power elite that runs Lancaster. Parris is a member. Other council past and present have affiliations there.
The city of Lancaster made financial decisions to put in infrastructure so that they could build their compound on the outskirts of town.
There have been numerous awards given between Parris and Chappell over the years-a sort of mutual admiration society. Parris has done videos promoting his brand of faith with references to Chappell.
Lancaster Baptist pastors have appeared at public meetings to lobby on behalf of Parris and Lancaster.
What specifically is needed to prove that their pulpit is a political endorsement?
Tim Scott says
“Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity. Violating this prohibition may result in denial or revocation of tax-exempt status and the imposition of certain excise taxes.”
The key point is that Chappell CAN personally endorse a candidate, but if that endorsement refers to “as the head of…”, or is made in the church, or posted to the church website, or there are promotional materials posted in the church…you get the drift I’m sure.
I would approach this from multiple points:
First, attend their services with a recording device during the run up to the next local election. They may be so complacent that they openly violate.
Second, volunteer for their “outreach” program. If any organizer type can be caught saying something like “we need to get more members in district X over in Palmdale” ask why and see if they say “to get someone better on their city council.”
As a sort of alternate for that second one, when their canvassers come to the door be really friendly and get them talking about what impact they think their church should have on the community. Enough “oh we try to make sure we keep our “god fearing” mayor in office messages from enough of their canvassers would point towards an organized effort.
DOCUMENTATION is the key. Recording is good, then you take the slap on the wrist for recording without permission but as long as the IRS didn’t ASK you to do it they can still use it.
Nothing would make my day better than seeing the IRS hoist Chappell on a proctoscope to see what he gives up on Wrecks.
Lancaster Voter says
I agree. It will be worth it to see justice finally come to Wrecks. Karma is sure taking its sweet time.
In the Lancaster City Council election, two pastors did a survey that was designed to make Johnathan Ervin look bad. That survey was paid for by Wrecks’ Deputy Mayor and employee. Information gathered in that survey was used in political hit mailers against Ervin. Does that qualify? I have all the documentation. To whom do I send them?
Have you seen this video? https://youtu.be/sEMAqHydfj8
Tim Scott says
If properly packaged and presented that might spark an investigation. The question is whether the pastors could be shown to be acting as representatives of their non-profit organization or could claim they were acting as individuals. Send me an e-mail and maybe we can figure out a path.

Why respond to Donald Trump’s rants. He is such an extremist. He’ll make an extreme comment and wait to see how well he can get away with it. A bunch his cronies will agree with his outrageous comment and then it’s considered factual. What a bunch of jackasses donald and his followers can be. It really needs to end.
Mike C says
Yeah all us Donald Trump followers are just a bunch of jackasses aren’t we? What blows my mind even more though is how a grown man that probably stood in line to vote for Hillary Clinton can sit here and call anyone a jackass. You have some nerve.
This is not europe for a reason says
The point of the electoral system was to prevent the false appearence of majority when the population is concentrated in 1 or few states and of that only a few cities within those states. Without the electoral system the bulk of the rest of the country which are spread more widely would have no voice. This is precisely how california is run already, with the coastal cities taking the voice away from the bulk 2/3rds of the rest of the state. Therefore dictating matters that should only apply to the cites as state regulation to people it should not affect. Whether there was the stated fraud or not, the electoral college was built to prevent it from being effective. The popular vote means less as data than the # of governors as an indicator in each area and that totals a national landslide bigger than the electoral college. Thus this whole popular presidential vote complaint is invalidated since truely most people did not like the democrat’s platform in general. It really is justva few states whining that they cant play tyrant this round and SNL got it right with “The Bubble” skit. California has moste people alone, but is only 1 state of 50.
Jimm says
No, all wrong.
US citizens are troubled by democrats using illegals to vote.
Tim Scott says
The only ones troubled by that are the ones with wild imaginations, like Dingbat Donny. They are cut from the same crowd that was troubled by our “Muslim Kenyan president” and any number of other tin foil hat theories. I’m guessing you are one of them.
Jimm Bimm says
I am guessing you Hillary supporter.
Suck it up buddy. Pants up, dont loot.
Get a job.
Patriot says
Anybody who takes pride for being an american citizen, should be upset about illegals voting.some navy veterans, just dont have that pride.as far as obama being a Muslim, I heard him on an interview, talking about his “muslim faith”.perhaps he misspoke. Strange thing to get wrong.
Laughing says
With George S. during the interview and George corrects him with “Your Christian faith.” then Obama corrects his statement and references the misdirection about what faith he is and then continues on. So in the span of less than 10 seconds, I know a huge amount of time to pay attention, Obama goes from talking about how he defended Sarah Palin’s right to privacy, then switches gears to talk about how his faith was being attacked and how that is just as private as Palin’s family issues were at the time.
Patriot says
Thats the one.dont know if he is a muslim, just going by what HE said.track record might tell the story.
Tim Scott says
I take pride in keeping a grasp on reality, that way I don’t get upset with things that you are imagining Patriot. Reality is an interesting place, you should visit.
Patriot says
Reality is, there are 2 states where illegals can vote, legally.ca is one of them.
Reality is, we spend billions on illegals, every year.
Id rather see that money, my tax money, go to homeless, veterans, or a million other places.
Reality is, obama called himself a muslim.
Reality, obama has spent 7 years catering to muslims.
Realty or facts.same thing.but I will work on visiting”reality world”
Tim Scott says
LOL…once again, you really should try visiting reality.
If you care to provide ANYTHING resembling a source to back up this “illegal aliens can legally vote” claim, please do. Otherwise, quit spewing nonsense because there are fools who might take you seriously…like Dingbat Donny, for instance.
For the record, in some jurisdictions all parents of children in the schools are allowed to vote in school board elections, regardless of citizenship. In the REAL world that is the only “allowed voting by illegal aliens” that I am aware of.
Patriot says
Ok tim.ca has automatic voter registration thru the d.m.v.gov brown gave all illegals drivers licenses.therefore, they are automatically registered to vote.its not rocket science.but then again, you are a lib.
Tim Scott says
Check Snopes http://www.snopes.com/california-motor-voter-act/ and stop getting your “news” from e-mail forwards and right wing tin foil hatters. How are you not embarassed to be caught spreading nonsensical rumors?
Tim Scott says
Get the facts, and stop spreading nonsense.
Snops would be a good place to start in this particular case.
Tim Scott says
Patriot, do you ever get embarrassed about the lies you get caught repeating? There is no “automatic” voter registration through the DMV. You CAN register to vote at the DMV while getting your license, which is convenient, but you still have to apply, and provide the necessary documentation…which includes proof of citizenship.
Get off Dingbat Donny’s Breitbart train and get some facts.
Laughing says
Patriot,
I could be incorrect but their drivers license has a flag attached in the system which prevents allowing said immigrant from voting in state level or higher elections.
