Woman hit, killed by car in Palmdale

PALMDALE – A woman walking in the road was struck and killed by a car in Palmdale early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The collision happened around 1:05 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, on Sierra Highway just south of Avenue O, according to a news release from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

“The preliminary facts of this investigation indicate that a female Hispanic was walking in the roadway for [an] unknown reason, at which time she was struck by a vehicle [2016 Hyundai Sonata], which was traveling southbound on Sierra Highway passing Avenue O, traveling at an unknown speed,” the news release states.

“The driver of the vehicle pulled to the shoulder of the roadway to render aid to the pedestrian,” the news release states.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Sierra Highway, between Avenue O and Avenue O-8, was closed for about four hours to allow for the collision scene investigation.

No further information on the fatal collision was immediately available Monday morning.

UPDATED 1.17.17: The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Vanessa Guerra of Rosamond, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

  5. Wow I still can’t believe this I’m still in shock R.I.P Nessa. I don’t know but to me the story don’t make sense I know for a fact Nessa was not gonna be just walking where she was found there is nothing there and if she were to be walking it would’ve only have been in rosamond and a short distance at that. R.I.P

  6. First I don’t buy that she was walking in the middle of Sierra Highway in Palmdale at 1:30am. As I recall another young lady was killed and dumped on Sierra Highway last year. A car ran over her body and at first they thought she had been hit. Secondly she was not a tweeker nor a druggie. I beleve she was working cleaning house’s that were being flipped. Several Yong women have been killed under suspicious circumstances in the AV over the last year and the Sheriff’s department need to look into any connections.

Vanessa was a woman whom I had the pleasure of growing up with, and whom was a very happy soul. She is missed so dearly by her family and friends. Taken too soon. Rest In Peace Nessa!!

  17. This information is not correct the driver who hit the woman did not stop to rendur help it was An off duty emt who noticed the woman In the road who pulled over and began cpr on the woman until ems appeared . Please update your information
