LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles County received a chunk of more than $127 million in state and federal funds announced Friday by the California Transportation Commission.
Among the 49 statewide projects receiving funding are:
- $1.35 million for Lancaster to make improvements on Fifth Street East from Avenue H-8 to Avenue J-4;
- $1.9 million for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) to make improvements at Union Station that will allow for more frequent service on the Red Line and Purple Line subways;
- $2.2 million for Baldwin Park to build improvements along Maine Avenue from Los Angeles Street to Arrow Highway, including bike lanes, curb extensions and crosswalks at 13 intersections, and new lighting and signals at five intersections;
- $2 million for Pomona to build a downtown bicycle and pedestrian improvement project;
- $702,000 for Rosemead for signs, crossings and sidewalks at one school, including a new pedestrian crossing.
“Caltrans is working to ensure every dollar counts when it comes to California’s transportation infrastructure,” Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty said. “Although we must not forget that our state highway system’s needs still exceed what resources are currently available, all these investments will benefit Californians now and for decades to come.”

For myself being handicap I have to say sidewalks and pathways need to be put on the list for fixing. I travel a lot in my wheelchair and just like cars I have accidents Due to pot holes, cracks and the pathway eroded away. Unfortunately many time I have to roll into streets , and In Palmdale Avenue S is a nightmare. I have to say Caltrans I wish I can say I see you hard at work but I wonder How many sick days do you guys get!?? I’ll be able to walk again by the time you complete the Job

Wait until the Federal funds dry up for the sanctuary cities/counties. Perhaps they can get all those folks fleeing to those places to build the roads.

Yeah, the Feds are smart enough not to break the law and get sued for it, even if Dingbat Don isn’t, so I wouldn’t worry about that. But even if they aren’t, California can afford to wait out the lawsuit and get paid in the end, with interest.

You suppose Don and Moonbeam are relatives….How is that train coming along?

Seems to be progressing at a normal massive infrastructure project pace…ie, slowly. Did that question have anything to do with…well…anything? Or was it just a random thought that crossed your mind and met so little resistance that it flew all the way to your fingertips?

What’s wrong with 5th Street East that it warrants $1.3 mill??? Seriously???
Tim Scott says
It has two four way stops that I bet really back up with the school traffic. Putting in two traffic lights eats most of a million, and I’m sure widening and repaving will eat the rest pretty handily.

Simple, they dig it up, inconvenience thousands for weeks while they are missing while getting paid. Then come back months later to almost finish it up. But then find an excuse to disappear once again. This is why in Japan, they can fix a 400ft sinkhole within days while Caltrans spends billions on…..still do not know.

I AGREE!!

NOTE: ONE MILLION THREE HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND $$$$$ for a 1.5 mile street. >> $1.35 million for Lancaster to make improvements on Fifth Street East from Avenue H-8 to Avenue J-4;<< What exactly will be improved to cost that much.
Tim Scott says
Ummmm…when is the last time you shopped for a street?
I avoid Lancaster like the plague, but a quick look at Google Maps shows two schools and two parks in that stretch, with at least two four way stop intersections that look like deathtraps. So I’d guess they plan to put traffic lights there. Two traffic lights eats most of a million dollars, so 1.3 million doesn’t really go a whole lot further.
