LANCASTER – A 28-year-old woman who went missing from the Hollywood Hills area three days ago and whose car was later found abandoned in the Lancaster area was found alive Wednesday.
Laura Lynne Stacy‘s exact condition wasn’t immediately available, but she was examined by paramedics and was taken to a hospital to be checked. There were no immediate details on how or why she wound up in the Antelope Valley.
Fox11 reported from the scene that Stacy was found on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway near Avenue K and she was spotted by detectives who were heading to the area to join the search effort. [View the Fox11 report here.]
Stacy had last been seen Sunday in the 3600 block of Barham Boulevard, two blocks south of Forest Lawn Drive, driving a 2005 black Acura TL with Colorado license plates, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
An Acura matching that description was found around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday near 97th Street East and Avenue E in Lancaster, and investigators determined it was Stacy’s car, said LAPD Officer Aareon Jefferson.
Deputies searched the car and the area Tuesday, but no one was located. The search resumed after daybreak, aided by helicopter crews.
On Sunday, Stacy’s phone was found in Golden Valley Park in Santa Clarita, said Sgt. Brian Hudson of the sheriff’s Santa Clarita Station. Deputies did not find anything else, Hudson said.
Stacy had recently moved from the Denver area.
“She wanted to try something new and come to California,” Marcy Stacy told the Los Angeles Daily News Tuesday night. “We’re praying that she’s OK and that this is a nightmare.”
Laura Stacy lives in the Burbank/Hollywood Hills area with a female roommate who was the last to see her Sunday morning, her mother told the newspaper. When her daughter didn’t respond to texts from family members later that day, Marcy Stacy said she felt uneasy.
On Monday morning about 5:15 a.m., Marcy Stacy got a text from her daughter’s cell phone from someone who said they had found the phone at Golden Valley Park, about 30 miles from where Laura Stacy was last seen, the Daily News reported.
Stacy’s mother and other family members flew out from Colorado on Tuesday to search for her and put up posters in her neighborhood and in Santa Clarita.
“I’m not sure why she was way out here,” Marcy Stacy told the Daily News.
UPDATE: Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Dionne Watts said Laura Stacy was suffering from exposure to the recent cold when she was found Wednesday, Jan. 25, along the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway near Avenue K.
“Miss Stacy was located by our detectives who were responding to assist in the investigation here in Lancaster,” Watts said. “They observed her walking on the side of the freeway, made contact with her and verified that it was her.”

There’s been no indication that drugs were involved in any way.
I see a couple of likely possibilities.
1. She was taken against her will. Though the longer it goes with no suspect description, the less likely that is, by now it’s pretty unlikely. Even if she was so traumatized she couldn’t give a description, the sheriffs department would be asking for witnesses.
2-3. She drove out on her own. This splits into several possibilities. The loss and finding of her phone seems odd. Rarely are lost phones turned in, and in this case it was found in a park in Santa Clarita and turned in to a police station close to her home. It’s possible there’s something else going on there, could have been stolen and randomly dumped there, or the people who “found it” could be involved, even indirectly. Her car was seen out on E on Monday night, no one in it needing help, so those who saw it figured it was a broken down car like show up out there regularly, before a tow truck is called by the owner or deputies to pick them up. So she wasn’t out there somewhere 1 night, it was 2.
2. Apparently she is dependent on her phone for navigation, so kindest explanation is she’s in the habit of driving randomly looking for stuff to photograph, then using her phone to find her way back, discovered her phone was missing, and kept driving until out of gas, then walked. What she did the 2 nights of freezing or near freezing weather, I don’t know, and by the time she got to the freeway, she was so delirious from dehydration and exposure, she just kept walking south, even though she could have walked a short distance off the freeway and asked for help in a business.
3. Other variations would be she was depressed or otherwise mentally affected, resulting in her driving out into the desert without her phone.
Any of these possibilities, I can see the family asking for privacy, but I’d still expect a reporter at some point will get a statement from the police at least eliminating or confirming the first possibility.

She was found along the 14 freeway and Avenue K what do you mean there’s no businesses or nothing right there you must not be from the Antelope Valley

i am not feeling sorry or defending her. I’m also not jumping to conclusions about any of this. so her story has holes in it. why do you feel that you have to drag her thru the mud….why is that up to you. let the police do their job and if you end up being right then so be it….you might just be wrong too and then what. innocent until proven guilty….does that ring any bells in your judgemental head??? she didn’t ask for any of this….it was her parents. any of us would of done the same. just grow up. pick on somebody that you know is a crackhead and that you have proof. I think you just like the word crackhead….you probably start salivating when you think about it. takes one to know one!!!

Definitely sounds fishy the story doesn’t add up and I hope she gets a fat bill too . What a waste of our tax payers money .

Idiots. What matters here is that theres a happy family who probably imagined that they would never see their daughter again and that theres a young woman who for whatever reason was alone and scared. you who are so quick to judge, you just want the juicy facts. Would you feel better if she was beaten and raped and left to die.? Maybe she was out in the desert cooking up a batch of crystal meth and since you seem to know all about what it does to a person maybe you want to hook up and buy some. How can you use the name “be equal”? change it to “unfair”. Antelope valley already has a bad name and reputation, stop trying to make it worse. In other words shut up unless you know the real true story. How would you feel if that was your daughter or sister? would you be saying the things you said? Think about that and “BE EQUAL”. treat others the way you would like to be treated. Keep your stinking remarks to yourself. have a nice day. I respect.

Stick up for her all you want she’s not going to give you any if it was anyone else except the poor little white girl it would be different comments a crackhead is a crackhead and nowadays most crackheads are white people really her car Fountain one plays her cellphone found another place you live in another place and walking down the 14 freeway come on she was high and that’s all it is there’s plenty of businesses restaurants and other places she passed by she did not ask for help because she was loaded let’s see you have sympathy for another story that don’t involve some white girl snorting all the Coke in the world my comment get you mad because it hits close to home

Maybe she ran out of gas and started walking thinking she would find somewhere to get some help? She didn’t have a cell phone since she lost hers and where she was …there isn’t much around except that old burned out school building. It’s a long way to the 14 from there. I just wonder where she spent the night ? Maybe somebody gave her a place to stay for the night and she was lost and could not remember where she left her car. ..As a photographer myself, I know it’s easy to get lost out here. You are looking for things to photograph and not paying attention to where you are…then you look up and realize you have no idea where you are…If she ran out of gas and had no phone to call for help, she probably just started walking. Just an idea…

Seems to me this story has alot of holes in it. It doesnt make any sense. Why wouldnt she get off the freeway then get back on and go the other way or stop at a gas station get some gas and ask for directions?
