Stabbing death at Lancaster trailer park, suspect surrenders [updated]

LANCASTER –  A man was fatally stabbed at a trailer park in Lancaster Friday afternoon during an argument with another man who authorities said surrendered.

The incident was reported around 1 p.m. Friday, March 3, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“Lancaster station deputy personnel responded to the 1400 block of East Avenue I, Lancaster, regarding an ‘assault with a deadly weapon’ call,” the news release states.

“Upon arrival, deputies were confronted by a male who surrendered himself, and said he was involved in an argument with the victim.  The male said during the argument he stabbed the victim,” the news release states.

The victim sustained multiple stabbed wounds to the upper torso and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His identity has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.

A folding knife was recovered at the scene, sheriff’s officials said in the news release.

The person of interest was being detained at the sheriff’s Lancaster Station Friday afternoon awaiting to be interviewed by detectives. Additional witnesses were also being interviewed at the station, according to the news release.

The suspect’s name was not immediately available.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).

UPDATED 3.6.17: The deceased has been identified as Joey Dean Jojola, 50, of Quartz Hill, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

A suspect was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, sheriff’s officials said, but his name was not immediately released.

  8. I first met Joey when I was about 15, yes we partied together back then. But we have all, I hope, grown up to be hard working productive members of society. Most of us are married with kids, some of us have grandkids, and most of us have and treasure our sobriety. We don’t deny our past but we are more proud of our now and our futures. Joey was a good guy that had worked hard to get where he was as we all have. He didn’t deserve to die the way he did. No one does. But we will all carry with us our memories of Joey. And the van. See you again my friend. My prayers are with all of his family and friends.

I knew Joey since about 1980l, He was a great guy always smiling and nice, he owned a big truck and was a dump truck driver for a while, the last time I saw him he was in a Chinese restaurant eating only vegetarian food, I asked him about it and was surprised he said he was a vegetarian, It could have been only for a time, OI don’t know, but he was always very nice and friendly. Ironically, I knew the killer too, I owned a company and he worked for me for about a year in 2004, he had no tattoos on his face and was not as hard core as he seems to be now, he was the only employee that filed a workers comp case against my company, he al;so stole another employees phone and got his ass kicked when the other employee found his phone in James Carson’s house a couple of weeks earlier. Joey was cool and had many friends in many places and I think James Carson will find allot of pissed off people who knew and loved Joey when the killer gets into his new lifetime home and prison.

      Due to the nature of this crime, and the investigation, we only know now, that services will be most likely in a few weeks. There ARE A COUPLE OF PAGES ON FACEBOOK, ONE IS ” IN HONOR OF JOEY JOJOLA” A place where his TRUE friends and family that KNEW Joey can go to share stories and pictures.     Joe (the stab victim) was a currently taking care of his wife on chemo when he got a call from his daughter. The daughter and her baby lived in a trailer that was purchased for her by her father (Joe), he was trying to help her get on her feet. The daughter’s (Cassandra) mother and the mothers boyfriend (all tweakers) were at the trailer and the boyfriend got an a altercation with Joe stabbed him to death.

          • It wasn’t about putting her on blast it was about her not being honest about all the drug use and the fact that one minute she says Jumbo Carson had Joeys permission to be there yet she also says That Joe was not happy about the type of people going to the house. It all just seems there is more to the story. If He had permission to be at the house I seriously doubt that Joey would have been there fighting with him and been killed by him. It just doesn’t fit.
