PALMDALE – One motorist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, and 35 others were arrested for other violations at a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint conducted in Palmdale this past weekend, authorities said.
The checkpoint was conducted from 6 p.m. Friday, March 3, to 2 a.m. Saturday, March 4, in the westbound lanes of Palmdale Boulevard at 17th Street East, according to a news release from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
The results of the checkpoint are as follows:
- 1270 vehicles screened.
- One DUI-drug impaired suspect arrested.
- One motorist arrested for operating a motor vehicle without an Ignition Interlock Device.
- 34 drivers cited/arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while license suspended/revoked.
- 36 citations issued.
- 28 vehicles released per DUI/CDL checkpoint release procedures.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting additional DUI/driver’s license checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols throughout the year as part of an ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon streets and highways.
Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It is easy to judge based on the numbers that were given in this article, because let’s face it, 34 drivers who were operating a vehicle unlicensed or when their license was suspended is definitely high if the number is true. We must remember to take the information given to us through the media with a grain of salt.
Too many idiots in the AV says
checkpoints are great illegal aliens want to keep driving with no driver’s license no insurance and DUI then they deserve to be stopped.
Cars impounded and arrested

No license = No insurance= DON’T DRIVE. Surprised about the low numbers? I am surprise they catch anyone on an Announce check sobriety check. One DUI driver can cause a whole lot pain for others and themselves, just like a narcissistic texting cellphone user driving.
Some people just hate the cops regardless of what they do or don’t do. I hear parts of Alaska is great for people like that, No Cops, no problems, huggable Bears, doing your thing.
Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains to bring it to light.

I wish they would stop calling these DUI check points, just call it what it is, a motor vehicle compliance check point. I have never seen DUI arrests in the double digits for as long as any city has been reporting these. A real DUI check point would start around 10pm and end around 3am, after the bars close and the Taco Bell drive through dies down.
Tim Scott says
Motor vehicle compliance check points are unconstitutional. So they lie as a way to skirt the intent of the law because they are out to enforce it on others, not follow it themselves. Then the cops wonder why citizens have no respect for law or law enforcement.

In Michigan Dept. of State Police v. Sitz, 496 U.S. 444 (1990), the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the use of sobriety checkpoints is constitutional. Under the Ninth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, states have the right to reasonably regulate the safety, health, and welfare of their citizens.

Tim Scott says
Right. They ruled that SOBRIETY checkpoints are constitutional. That’s why even though 97% of the results of a SOBRIETY checkpoint have nothing to do with SOBRIETY they still have to PRETEND that it is a SOBRIETY checkpoint. If they called it what it actually IS it wouldn’t be constitutional.

Was just supplying support info. Helps to mute others when facts are placed out there.

gets busy with the immigration problem there will be less

wow… that’s terrifying, to know that all these people are out there driving without license I wonder if they even have auto insurance….
Tim Scott says
“All those people” are about three in a hundred. And DUI’s are apparently less than one in a thousand. That hardly sounds “terrifying.” In fact it sounds like fairly good odds. Think I’ll take a drive tomorrow.
Laughing says
I doubt they have insurance. A number of licensed drivers get it to register the car, then drop it.
Jt says
Well you need a license to get insurance, and even if they drop the insurance dmv is notified at which point your vehicle registration is suspended, which alliws for vehicle being impounded. Cheaper to keep the insurance.
