LAKEWOOD – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Thursday that it is investigating the actions of a deputy depicted in a YouTube video appearing to ignore a shooting call.
Deputy Jeremy Fennell, who was assigned to the sheriff’s Lakewood Station and was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in January, has been relieved of duty, officials said.
In the 51-second video clip, Fennell appears to be trying to make amends with his girlfriend, but while he speaks a radio call about a shooting is heard.
Fennel then states, “Someone is getting shot right now. I know I got to go, but I’m not going to because you’re mad. Someone is getting shot. Oh well. Oh well. Because I want to make things right with me and you.”
The video was published on Feb. 23 by Fennell’s girlfriend, but it’s unclear when the recording was made.
The sheriff’s department issued the following statement regarding the case:
“The sheriff’s department is aware of the video and is thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding the case. Sheriff Jim McDonnell is very concerned about the actions depicted in the video and the Department is taking appropriate action. Deputy Jeremy Fennel was relieved of duty on Jan. 25, 2017, pending the outcome of the investigation.”
Fennell, 26, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence on Jan. 25, and was released a day later after posting $50,000 bail, according to the sheriff’s department.

That only thing that separates that sorry excuse of a LEO and a low life “romeo” half witted thug, is his uniform. Mind boggling that the moronic dimwit managed to finagle his way into any job, let alone becoming a LEO. SMH…

Not everyone is meant for this type of job and take their responsibilities serious. The problem they(LASD) have NOW is reviewing everything this Numbnutz touched. Screening (higher standards) will only catch some of these Numbnutz, it is not 100% full proof nothing is. All government agencies need to purge their ranks of these types of law violators as soon as they are found out

Law enforcement if highly undesirable to be employed in
Theses inner city police agencies tend to hire the best which may be people of low standards (at times)

I’d rather call a neighbor or fire station for help in any situation than these dirty cops in la county..most are worse than gang members and are crooked drunks……please fire them all and hire good ones from out of state because these punks think they are gangsters with a badge but would get beat up quick in the hoods..

Tim Scott your comments are bogus. Where the f@#$ do you come up with this malarkey? Get a life dude…
Tim Scott says
LOL…bogus? Are Baca and Tanaka NOT in the slammer? Were they not convicted for covering up anything and everything that the LASD did wrong during their tenure? Please, what was bogus there?

*deaf* auto correct my apologies lol
Tim Scott says
So, once again Susan, which facts are you suggesting I need to get in addition to the ones I stated? Baca and Tanaka are in the slammer…that’s a fact. They are in there for covering up the gross misdeeds of our local law enforcement agency…that’s also a fact. Are you, like some of the clowns around here, just randomly disputing because I’m the one who posted these facts? If so, you should be able to see that trying to bully me into silence doesn’t really work. You’d just wind up burning away all your credibility, like the “Uncle Sam” poster below has done.

Thank-you!!! I don’t think most of these people have common sense with their job duties, especially in today’s social media world , everything gets posted or recorded, social media pretty much took over reality for most, that is why I don’t have any social accounts , smart choice I believe more people should not have a Facebook, do not participate people!!! It’s just a trendy thing to do, just an excuse for the government to control your lives!!!
Tim Scott says
Apparently with Baca and Tanaka in the slammer no one could figure out how to cover this up.

After 30+ years with the Department….this guy is a POS. A total embarrassment.
Tim Scott says
I would think he was an embarrassment if I didn’t think he was probably typical.
Shane Falco says
Having been a part of the department over 25 years ago I wholeheartedly agree. Once the department shifted away from hiring qualified candidates to adjusting scores and lowering standards in order to fill quotas, this has become the result.
Starting as far back as the 70’d with the “Little Devils” from and living in East LA and the rise of the Grim Reapers of Lennox station, The Cavemen, The Regulators of Century station, The Pirates, The Rattlesnakes, and the jail cliques/gangs in the 2000 Boys, 3000 Boys, and 4000 Boys, all started and run by guys who fit a quota.
Many of those deputies have been subsequently fired after many prolonged issues and should’ve been flushed before ever making an academy. The department celebrates bringing in guys from bad neighborhoods and bad/gang families but then acts shocked when they do the exact thing that their neighborhoods and families are known for.
Reinstate the same test scores and no excuse standards for ALL groups be it male, female, every race, color, religion and go back to recruiting the best of the best.

You left out “and a badge licking baton polisher ever since.”
Since your family is known for being dirty cops one wonders why you failed the grade.
Geeze Tim says
Tim,
I read your posts from time to time. Not all police officers are bad. I am sorry to hear you disagree. Perhaps you were abused as a child by a police officer like an altar boy, but you really need to realize not everyone that wears a uniform and badge is corrupt. To spew that language only shows ignorance on your part.
I am sure you have some witty comments you can make, or some childish names you want to post about anyone who disagrees here as you usually do. Bottom line, I spent a long time doing my best and not being corrupt. Nothing you say can come close to the things I have seen others do to themselves or others in those years of service. I knew I was appreciated by most and only some like yourself were truly mentally jaded by some apparent life trauma.
Tim Scott says
I didn’t say they were all bad. I just said that I don’t think this one was anything but typical. He isn’t the exception, in my opinion…you may have been.
But in one thing you are definitely typical as cops go in my experience. Someone who doesn’t have a “general liking” for cops is assumed to be ignorant, or a criminal, or ‘suffering from an apparent life trauma.” You dismiss out of hand that I, like pretty much every active citizen, has passing interactions with cops on a daily basis and can just be showing the results of most of those interactions being bad, even if they aren’t serious.
Any driver that doesn’t use their turn signal properly gets noted as a rude scofflaw. It seems that every driver of a black and white vehicle I have ever encountered falls in this category. Not a big deal in itself, but certainly not something that would make me like them.
I have heard “I’m an off duty cop” in a number of real life situations. EVERY time it has been from someone who had already tried some other bullying tactic to get an advantage…be that puffing their chest like they wanted to fight, or just wanting to “win an argument” by the simple expedient of telling anyone who disagreed with them to shut up. Is that reflective of every single cop? Of course not…but again drawing a conclusion that this is typical doesn’t require me to be “defective.”
So the typical thing that even gets you is this “nobody dislikes cops because cops DESERVE it…it’s just that they are defective somehow” attitude. Even my friend who is a cop had a hard time recognizing that when we met I wasn’t really interested in the “if you just understood cops you’d like us” pitch. To his credit he took the time to hear me out instead. If you ever see a cop use a turn signal it is probably him.
Gowchong says
Shane,
I completely agree with you. The LASD lowered standards to fit in minorities who otherwise would not have qualified in EVERY way.
When I came home from my service in Nam, I was both mentally and intellectually qualified for service with the LASD. I was highly trained in martial arts and completely physically qualified, in terms of physical fitness. There was one area I was not qualified. Height. Back then the height requirement was 5 feet 7 inches for a male. I stood 5 feet 6 and a bit over 1/2 inches. I missed it by less than 1/2 an inch, no exceptions.
As it turned out, it was a blessing in disguise, as I became, first a youth pastor, then 11 years later a public school teacher. I had a very satisfying career.
I am a member of the minority community, and in spite of that would still support higher standards for hiring law enforcement officers.
Tim Scott mentions Tanaka and Baca. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Tim Scott says
Maybe, but Shane got in through pure nepotism. The “everyone but me and mine are cockroaches” philosophy that he learned from his dirty cop dad should have been a disqualifier if the standards were so high.
I’m glad things worked out for you and you wound up in a well respected profession.
