LANCASTER – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Traffic Services Detail will be conducting a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Lancaster this Friday, April 21, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment. They also will check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving.
Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
Funding for this operation is provided to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The Sheriff’s Department advises residents to plan ahead with these tips:
- Arrange rides home for your friends, family, co-workers and yourself before the drinking begins.
- Identify and provide free non-alcoholic drinks or other promotional items to the designated driver.
- Party hosts and servers should limit drinks to guests or patrons. Don’t serve more than one or two drinks over several hours.
- Cut back on the amount of drinks you plan to bring to a party, and provide plenty of food.
Drivers are encouraged to download the Designated Driver VIP, or “DDVIP,” free mobile app for Android or iPhone. The DDVIP app helps find nearby bars and restaurants that feature free incentives for the designated sober driver, from free non-alcoholic drinks to free appetizers and more. The feature-packed app even has social media tie-ins and even a tab for the non-DD to call Uber, Lyft or Curb.

The tips are wrong what you really need too make sure is 1. Current drivers license on you, 2. Current registration for your vehicle, and 3. Current vehicle insurance proof on you. These so called DUI check points on the next day news always report their progress and would you believe it there is rarely ever one DUI arrest, but a sure lot of tickets, and impounded vehicles for no license, registration,or insurance. If they were really going after drunks on the road they would start around 10pm to 3am. After 10pm house party booze tends to run low so someone has to make a beer run,and by 3am all the bars are closed and Taco Bell’s drunk rush drive through lines are done. I am fine if your checking too make sure my car is legal to be on the road, just don’t say its too get drunks off the road because everyone knows what street you’ll be on because you announce it ahead of time which everyone who ever partied knows this info gets passed around the house party, club and bar faster than the DJ can find and play That Wobble Baby dance song.
